Novel land uses shape meta-community structures in neighbouring native forests: Dataset across Uruguay.

The presented datasets relate to the research article entitled "Native forest meta-community structures in Uruguay shaped by novel land use types in their surroundings" [Ramírez and Säumel; Ecology and Evolution, 2022]. The datasets include field survey data on woody species presence and absence from 384 plots at 32 permanent monitoring sites of native forests across the Oriental Republic of Uruguay (South America). We compiled different methods from meta-community studies, remote sensing and landscape ecology to explore how woody species communities are influenced by land use change from local to regional scale.

We explore the effect of land-use change from extensively used grasslands to intensified silvi- and agricultural monocultures on metacommunity structure of native forests in Uruguay. We integrated methods from metacommunity studies, remote sensing, and landscape ecology to explore how woody species distribution was influenced by land-use change from local to regional scale. We recorded richness and composition of adult and juvenile woody species from 32 native forests, created land-use maps from satellite image to calculate spatial metrics at landscape, class, and patch levels.

Access to school-based eye health programs: a qualitative case study, Bogotá, Colombia.

Objectives: To identify barriers and enablers to accessing school-based eye health programs in Bogotá, Colombia.

Methods: We undertook a qualitative case study that explored how structural factors, and social and cultural norms influence access to school-based eye health programs. We conducted focus groups discussions and interviews with a purposive sample of 37 participants: government stakeholders (n = 4), representatives from nongovernmental organizations (n = 3), and an eye-care practitioner, as well as teachers (n = 7), a school nurse, parents (n = 7), and children (n = 14) from private and public schools.

Prevalence of Refractive Error, Presbyopia, and Spectacle Coverage in Bogotá, Colombia: A Rapid Assessment of Refractive Error.

Significance: Uncorrected refractive error is the leading cause of visual impairment; therefore, reducing its prevalence is important worldwide. For two decades, there has not been a comprehensive assessment of refractive error in Latin America.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the current prevalence of refractive error, presbyopia, spectacle coverage, barriers to uptake refractive services, and spectacle correction in people 15 years and older in Bogotá, Colombia.

Incorporating temperature effects in California's on-road emission gridding process for air quality model inputs.

On-road mobile sources play a significant role in air quality modeling and these models require gridded, hourly emission inputs. Due to its geographical and meteorological diversity and stringent air quality regulations, California state always poses big challenge for air quality modelers and policy makers. At the same time, the impact of ambient temperature on vehicle emissions has been well researched in the past few decades and it is vital to prepare a reliable on-road gridded emission inventory for air quality modeling.

TRIO a technique for reconstruction using intensity order: application to undersampled MRI.

Long acquisition times are still a limitation for many applications of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), specially in 3-D and dynamic imaging. Several undersampling reconstruction techniques have been proposed to overcome this problem. These techniques are based on acquiring less samples than specified by the Nyquist criterion and estimating the nonacquired data by using some sort of prior information.

Multiplex detection of Solenopsis invicta viruses -1, -2, and -3.

Multiplex reverse transcription and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) methods were developed to detect Solenopsis invicta viruses -1, -2, and -3 simultaneously in their host, the red imported fire ant, S. invicta. cDNA synthesis was conducted in a single reaction containing an oligonucleotide primer specific for each virus.

Validation of inter-atrial conduction time measurement by means of echo-Doppler.

Background: Little is known about the correlation between the inter-atrial conduction time (IACT) measured at the electrophysiology laboratory and the interval measured from the beginning of the electrocardiographic P wave to the initiation of the A wave in the mitral Doppler signal (P-A interval).

Hypothesis: IACT can be assessed by means of echo-Doppler.

Methods: We studied 21 patients who were referred to our arrhythmia clinic for evaluation of supraventricular tachycardia.
