Morphometric magnetic resonance imaging study of the quadriceps tendon in hemodialysis patients: comparison with non-dialyzed controls.

Objective: To evaluate the knees of individuals with renal failure who are on hemodialysis, using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), comparing them with those of a group of individuals with normal renal function.

Materials And Methods: This was a cross-sectional, observational, controlled study conducted between August 2018 and February 2020. The cases consisted of 15 patients who had been on hemodialysis for ≥ 5 years and did not have a quadriceps tendon rupture.

TREATMENT OF QUADRICEPS TENDON RUPTURE IN HEMODIALYSIS PATIENTS: A 2020 UPDATE.

Quadriceps tendon tears are uncommon injuries often associated with chronic diseases, including end-stage renal disease (ESRD). The role of secondary hyperparathyroidism as a predisposing factor for tendon tears in this group of patients is well documented, and the weakening of the tendon-bone junction is part of this context. The treatment of choice for quadriceps tendon ruptures in patients with ESRD is surgery, which should be performed as soon as possible.

Managing macular hole associated with acute inflammatory Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada syndrome.

We report a 24-year-old man with Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada (VKH) syndrome who developed a macular hole (MH) during the acute inflammatory stage. Spontaneous resolution was unlikely because of the MH dimensions and absence of vitreous adherence. The patient underwent pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) and internal limiting membrane peeling during the acute stage followed by retinopexy with octafluoropropane injection and prone positioning for 5 days.

Patients And Methods: Vitrectomies included ERM and internal limiting membrane (ILM) removal with vital dyes. Best corrected visual acuity (BCVA), optical coherence tomography (OCT), fluorescein angiography, and autofluorescence were performed at baseline and postoperatively.

Comparison of 20-, 23-, and 25-gauge air infusion forces.

Purpose: To determine and compare 20-, 23-, and 25-gauge retinal infusion air jet impact pressure (force per unit area) in an experimental setting.

Methods: Experimental laboratory investigation. Infusion cannulas were connected to a compressed air system.

Staining patterns in dry eye syndrome: rose bengal versus lissamine green.

Purpose: To evaluate and compare corneal staining patterns of lissamine green (LG) versus rose bengal (RB) in patients with dry eye syndrome. Secondary objectives included addressing patient's comfort after instillation and to correlate disease severity with staining patterns.
