The significant attention drawn to Ir-complexes in recent years has boosted the development of new compounds with advantageous photophysical features. However, obtaining Ir deep-red-emitting complexes with long lived excited state, high colour purity and high quantum yield () remains a challenging task. To address this issue, this study reports the synthesis and photophysical investigation of three novel zwitterionic complexes, [Ir(C^N)] (C^N = , , and ), with = 2-phenylpyridine (Ir-pb), = 2-phenylquinoline (Ir-qb), = benzo[]quinoline (Ir-bb), and = potassium 2,2'-biquinoline-4,4'-dicarboxylate.

In the search for newer, safer, and more effective antileishmanial compounds, we herein present a study of the mode of action in addition to a detailed structural and biological characterization of [-benzoyl-'-benzyl-″-(4-tertbutylphenyl)guanidine]. X-ray crystallography and extensive NMR experiments revealed that nearly exclusively adopts the conformation stabilized by an intramolecular hydrogen bond.
