During attempts to synthesize zirconium-based MOFs, we have obtained a new crystal structure of the cluster with ZrO core and formula unit [ZrO(OH)(OH)(CHCOO)(SO)]·HO. Unlike other systems, mild conditions were employed in this case; no strong acids or hydrothermal conditions were required. The molecular assembly in the crystal is characterized by strong O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds connecting neighboring molecules, allowing the formation of a three-dimensional maze of tunnels with HO molecules stabilizing the framework.

Although Essential Climate Variables (ECVs) have been widely adopted as important metrics for guiding scientific and policy decisions, the Earth Observation (EO) and Land Surface and Hydrologic Model (LSM/HM) communities have yet to treat terrestrial ECVs in an integrated manner. To develop consistent terrestrial ECVs at regional and continental scales, greater collaboration between EO and LSM/HM communities is needed. An essential first step is assessing the LSM/HM simulation uncertainty.

This study focused on synthesizing and characterizing PEGylated amphiphilic block copolymers with pendant linoleic acid (Lin) moieties as an alternative to enhance their potential in drug delivery applications. The synthesis involved a two-step process, starting with ring-opening polymerization of ε-caprolactone (CL) and propargylated cyclic carbonate (MCP) to obtain PEG-b-P(CL-co-MCP) copolymers, which were subsequently modified via click chemistry. Various reaction conditions were explored to improve the yield and efficiency of the click chemistry step.

We present a theoretical investigation of the Goös-Hanchen shift (GHS) experienced by acoustic and optical vibrational modes reflected and transmitted from the surfaces of a semiconductor thin film sandwiched between two semi-infinite media. Our study focuses on the impact of the incident angle on the GHS, considering the coupling between longitudinal and transverse modes. For acoustic vibrations, our findings reveal that the GHS can reach magnitudes up to seven times larger than the thickness of the thin film and up to 20 times larger than the incident wavelength.

Indigenous peoples around the world face significant health disparities relative to the dominant groups in their countries, yet the magnitude and patterns of health disparities vary across countries. We use data from the National Health Interview Survey and Mexican Family Life Survey to examine the health of Indigenous peoples in Mexico and American Indians and Alaska Natives in the USA and to evaluate how they fare relative to the majority populations in their countries (non-Indigenous Mexicans and non-Hispanic Whites, respectively). We assess disparities in self-rated health and activity limitations, with a focus on how Indigenous health disparities intersect with educational gradients in health.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to evaluate the quality of care for patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) using 18 validated quality indicators (QIs) based on EULAR guidelines and to examine its relationship with patient care satisfaction.
  • It analyzed 70 patients aged 18 and older, finding an overall QI adherence of 62.29% and a care satisfaction score of 100, but no significant correlation between the two (r = 0.064, p = 0.599).
  • Patients in remission showed better compliance with QIs compared to those with moderate to high disease activity, indicating that disease status may impact quality of care adherence.

Research about harmonious passion as a personal resource that can have a protective effect in situations of stress and burnout is scarce but growing. Considering the job demands-resources (JD-R) model, the present study aims to address the above gaps by exploring the moderating role of harmonious passion at work in the relationship between burnout (physical fatigue, cognitive weariness, and emotional exhaustion) and intrinsic job satisfaction. The study sample consisted of 748 workers from service organizations (front-line employees) in southern Spain (Mage = 35.

Article Synopsis
  • Researchers studied how optical antennas made from non-plasmonic tungsten (W) behave in terms of scattering properties and far-field diffraction patterns, comparing their findings with similar antennas made from plasmonic metals like silver (Ag) and gold (Au).
  • The study demonstrated that non-plasmonic W can also launch surface waves capable of confining visible light at metal-dielectric interfaces, similar to the behavior exhibited by plasmonic metals.
  • The researchers developed theoretical models to explain these newly discovered surface waves on tungsten, likening them to Zenneck waves observed in the radio frequency range, thus paving the way for further investigation into nanoscale surface waves beyond traditional plasmonic materials.

Background: The way people with psychosis psychologically adapt and manage the diagnosis of such a mental disorder has been considered a key factor that contributes to the emergence and aggravation of emotional problems. These beliefs about illness can be very important due to their possible association with stigma and its implications in terms of loss of roles and social status. Given the importance of these personal beliefs about the specific diagnosis of psychosis, the Personal Beliefs about Illness Questionnaire (PBIQ) and PBIQ-R have been developed.
