Major histocompatibility complex class I (MHC I) molecules are central to adaptive immunity. Their assembly, epitope selection, and antigen presentation are controlled by the MHC I glycan through a sophisticated network of chaperones and modifying enzymes. However, the mechanistic integration of the corresponding processes remains poorly understood.

In this study, an inline analytical method was designed and applied in process characterisation and development. The model reaction is the two-step diesterification of 3-methylphthalic anhydride with 2-ethylhexanol consisting of alcoholysis as the first step, followed by an acid-catalysed, second esterification step leading to the corresponding diester. The final product is a potential, alternative plasticiser.
