The presence of a lesion with atypical presentation, obscure clinical history, which does not improve with classic treatments, shall raise the red flag of the medical team. In such cases, the hypothesis of a factitious lesion shall be considered. Many times the correct diagnosis on the initial assessment may avoid high-cost diagnostic tests, unnecessary treatments, and time consumption of the medical team.

Synopsis of recent research by authors named "Leohnard Roger Bayer"

  • Leohnard Roger Bayer's research primarily focuses on innovative surgical techniques for treating wrist injuries and deformities, particularly emphasizing arthroscopic procedures and biplanar osteotomy methods.
  • His study on arthroscopic resection of volar wrist ganglions demonstrates effective outcomes for patients who have not responded to conservative treatments, signaling a meaningful advancement in minimally invasive surgical options.
  • Bayer also addresses diagnostic challenges in hand lesions, advocating for the consideration of factitious disorders, which can prevent unnecessary medical interventions and improve overall patient management.
