To develop an optimized controlled-release system based on temperature-sensitive poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAAm) nanofibers, we prepared three types of temperature-controlled preservative films. These films were composed of PNIPAAm, polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), polylactic acid (PLA), and lemon essential oil (LEO), and were fabricated using uniaxial, coaxial, and layered spinning techniques. The nanofiber films obtained by layered spinning exhibited a sandwich structure, demonstrating superior physical barrier properties, mechanical strength, and thermal resistance.

Background: Rapidly expanding human activities have profoundly changed the habitat use of both large carnivores and their prey, but whether and how human activities affect the interactions between them has received relatively less attention. In this study, we conducted a systematically designed camera-trapping survey on an endangered large carnivore (North Chinese leopard Panthera pardus japonensis) and its wild ungulate prey (Siberian roe deer Capreolus pygargus and wild boar Sus scrofa) in the Taihang Mountains of central North China. Using conditional two-species occupancy model based on data derived from the extensive sampling effort (15,654 camera-days at 102 camera sites), we examined the relationship of spatial use between leopards and each prey species under the effects of human presence, free-ranging cattle, roads and settlements.

Low-carbon and high-efficiency binder is desirable for sustainable treatment of municipal solid waste incineration fly ash (MSWI FA). In this study, CaO or MgO was used to activate ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBS) to form calcium silicate hydrate and magnesium silica hydrate gel for stabilization/solidification of hazardous MSWI FA. Experimental results showed that potential toxic elements (PTEs), such as Pb and Zn, significantly inhibited the formation of reaction products in CaO-GGBS system due to the complexation between Ca(OH) and PTEs, whereas PTEs only had insignificant inhibition on transformation from MgO to Mg(OH) in MgO-GGBS system, resulting in lower leachabilities of PTEs and higher mechanical strengths.

Large mammals can perceive humans as predators and therefore adjust their behavior to achieve coexistence with humans. However, lack of research at sites with low hunting intensity limits our understanding of how behavioral responses of animals adapt to different predation risks by humans. At Heshun County in North China, where hunting has been banned for over three decades and only low-intensity poaching exists, we exposed two large ungulates (Siberian roe deer and wild boar ) to the sounds of humans, an extant predator (leopard ) and a control (wind), and examined their flight responses and detection probabilities when hearing different type of sounds.

Individuals' health status is an essential indicator of the overall strength of a country. Existing literature has studied the determinants of individuals' health, but there is no direct evidence to date on the impact of mobile payment on health. To supplement relevant research and provide insightful policy suggestions to families, government and societies, based on data of 32,058 observations from the 2017 China Household Finance Survey, we estimate the effects of mobile payment on physical health using ordinary least squares and two-stage least squares strategy.

Article Synopsis
  • A search for exclusive two-photon production via photon exchange in proton-proton collisions was conducted using data from the LHC in 2016, focusing on events with intact protons.
  • The analysis aimed to select events with a diphoton invariant mass above 350 GeV, ensuring both protons remained intact to minimize interference from strong interactions.
  • No events meeting the criteria were found, which allowed researchers to set new limits on two anomalous four-photon coupling parameters, revealing |ζ_{1}|<2.9×10^{-13} GeV^{-4} and |ζ_{2}|<6.0×10^{-13} GeV^{-4} at a 95% confidence level.

A search for dark matter in the form of strongly interacting massive particles (SIMPs) using the CMS detector at the LHC is presented. The SIMPs would be produced in pairs that manifest themselves as pairs of jets without tracks. The energy fraction of jets carried by charged particles is used as a key discriminator to suppress efficiently the large multijet background, and the remaining background is estimated directly from data.

During pregnancy, the rodent liver undergoes hepatocyte proliferation and increases in size, followed by weaning-induced involution via hepatocyte cell death and stromal remodeling, creating a prometastatic niche. These data suggest a mechanism for increased liver metastasis in breast cancer patients with recent childbirth. It is unknown whether the human liver changes in size and function during pregnancy and weaning.
