Aims: Assessing the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on parental anxiety and preferences for antibiotic treatment can help inform antibiotic stewardship strategies. Therefore, this study aimed to examine COVID-19 pandemic-related changes in parental anxiety levels, their intentions to demand antibiotics and frequencies of practising preventative behaviours.

Design: This longitudinal quantitative study compared two groups of parents, those from Victoria and Western Australia, who experienced high and low COVID-19 risk, respectively.

Feedback devices were developed to guide resuscitations as targets recommended by various guidelines are difficult to achieve. Yet, there is limited evidence to support their use for in-hospital cardiac arrests (IHCA), and they did not correlate with patient outcomes. Therefore, this study has investigated the compression quality and patient outcomes in IHCA with the use of a feedback device via a retrospective study of inpatient code blue activations in a Singapore hospital over one year.

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is one of the key public health concerns the world is facing today. The effect of antibiotic awareness campaigns (AACs) on consumer behaviour has been documented in the literature with mixed results. Understanding the mechanism for how AACs affect target populations is vital in designing effective and tailored campaigns.

Lack of knowledge from parents concerning the appropriate use of antimicrobials leads to poor treatment choices and mismanagement of antimicrobials for their children. Social marketing (SM) strategies have the potential to help parents access useful information on the appropriate use of antimicrobials. Still, its application in interventions targeting antimicrobial/antibiotic resistance awareness is minimal.

Lyme disease is usually associated with forested habitats but has recently emerged on treeless islands in the Western Isles of Scotland. The environmental and human components of Lyme disease risk in open habitats remain unknown. We quantified the environmental hazard and risk factors for human tick bite exposure among treeless islands with low and high Lyme disease incidence in the Western Isles.

Differentiating radiation necrosis (a radiation induced treatment effect) from recurrent brain tumors (rBT) is currently one of the most clinically challenging problems in care and management of brain tumor (BT) patients. Both radiation necrosis (RN), and rBT exhibit similar morphological appearance on standard MRI making non-invasive diagnosis extremely challenging for clinicians, with surgical intervention being the only course for obtaining definitive "ground truth". Recent studies have reported that the underlying biological pathways defining RN and rBT are fundamentally different.

Unlabelled: Hyperreactivity of platelets is one of the agents promoting atherosclerosis and its organ complications

The Aim: To assess antiplatelet therapy with acetylsalicylic acid (ASA) and ticlopidine on clinical condition and chosen parameters of blood platelet activity and reactivity in patients with PAOD.

Material And Methods: Twenty eight patients, aged 40-65 years, were enrolled to the study after clinically and echographically established diagnosis. The patients were randomly divided into two groups: 13 were treated with ASA 300 mg daily and 15 with ticlopidine 2 x 250 mg daily.

Three patients are reported in whom on days 10-14 after the operation for lumbar intervertebral disc prolapse symptoms of lumbago developed. In all cases radiological examination revealed signs characteristic for spondylodiscitis. The analysis of these cases and other ones collected from the literature suggested the conclusion that spondylodiscitis occurring after operations for lumbar disc prolapse is a self-limiting infection in the development of which a role may be played, apart from bacterial factors also by immunological mechanisms.

Aqueous sodium alginate solutions were subjected to various heat sterilization treatments. Sodium alginate powder was also treated by both gamma-irradiation and ethylene oxide sterilization. The effects of these treatments on the viscosities of sodium alginate solutions and both the diameter and strength of the beads formed in 0.
