In the last 2 decades, multiple robotic camera holders have been developed to improve camera steering during laparoscopic surgery. A new image-based steering method has been developed for more intuitive camera control. In this article, the efficiency and user experience of image-based steering were compared to conventional steering methods.

Article Synopsis
  • This study looks at a new way to find cancer in the lymph nodes during surgery using a special magnetic imaging system called fhMPI.
  • The researchers combined this magnetic method with a glowing dye to help see where the particles are.
  • Results showed it works well in tests and during pig surgeries, helping doctors get better images and confirm exactly where the cancer might be.

Background: Laparoscopic surgery potentially increases the physical burden to operating theater personnel and can cause physical discomfort. This study aims to evaluate if a robotic camera holder (AutoLap™ system) can improve ergonomics for the surgeon and the camera assistant during laparoscopic procedures.

Methods: A total of thirty cases were included and randomized (15 AutoLap™, 15 control).
