Combustion of surgical drapes during surgery is a rare event which can nonetheless lead to serious consequences. Iatrogenic burns caused by this complication are often deep and lead to functional and aesthetic sequelae. Nevertheless, awareness of the triggering factors and mechanisms, as well as knowledge of the proper use of various at-risk products such as alcohol-based antiseptic agents and compressed oxygen can reduce the incidence of these undesirable events.

Article Synopsis
  • The conserved Protein Phosphatase type-1 (PP1) is crucial for various cellular functions in eukaryotic cells, and the research identifies a protein called PfRCC-PIP as a significant partner of PP1 in parasites.
  • PfRCC-PIP directly interacts with PfPP1 and helps trigger oocyte maturation by working synergistically with low doses of progesterone, indicating a regulatory role on PP1.
  • The findings highlight the essential nature of RCC-PIP, as knock-out parasites are not viable, and suggest that RCC-PIP acts as a platform for regulating kinase and phosphatase activities through its interaction with the kinase CDPK7.

Protein phosphatase 1 (PP1c) is one of the main phosphatases whose function is shaped by many regulators to confer a specific location and a selective function for this enzyme. Here, we report that eukaryotic initiation factor 2β of Plasmodium falciparum (PfeIF2β) is an interactor of PfPP1c. Sequence analysis of PfeIF2β revealed a deletion of 111 amino acids when compared to its human counterpart and the presence of two potential binding motifs to PfPP1 ((29)FGEKKK(34), (103)KVAW(106)).

Introduction: Pets are not always the human's best friends, particularly in the presence of comorbidities such as wounds. The following case report describes a Pasteurella multocida infection of a reconstructive breast implant due to a close contact between a cat and its owner.

Presentation Of Case: A 33-year-old woman developed a breast implant infection 13 days after an immediate breast reconstruction following a mastectomy for a multifocal ductal carcinoma.

Background: Protein Phosphatase 1 (PP1) is an enzyme essential to cell viability in the malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum (Pf). The activity of PP1 is regulated by the binding of regulatory subunits, of which there are up to 200 in humans, but only 3 have been so far reported for the parasite. To better understand the P.
