The association of aortic stenosis (AS) and obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy raises questions about AS quantification, the management of left ventricular outflow tract obstruction, and AS treatment. Recently, mavacamten demonstrated its efficacy in reducing left ventricular outflow tract obstruction gradient. This case reports on mavacamten use in this challenging association.

We reveal an activity-dependent regulation of cortical inhibitory synapses by microglia, driven by purinergic signaling acting on P2RX7 and mediated by microglia-derived TNFα.

Monitoring adrenal insufficiency through salivary steroids: a pilot study.

Background: Various glucocorticoid replacement therapies (GRTs) are available for adrenal insufficiency (AI). However, their effectiveness in restoring glucocorticoid rhythm and exposure lacks adequate biochemical markers. We described the diurnal salivary cortisol (SalF) and cortisone (SalE) rhythm among different GRTs and analysed the associations between saliva-derived parameters and life quality questionnaires.

Placental vessel segmentation and registration in fetoscopy: Literature review and MICCAI FetReg2021 challenge findings.

Fetoscopy laser photocoagulation is a widely adopted procedure for treating Twin-to-Twin Transfusion Syndrome (TTTS). The procedure involves photocoagulation pathological anastomoses to restore a physiological blood exchange among twins. The procedure is particularly challenging, from the surgeon's side, due to the limited field of view, poor manoeuvrability of the fetoscope, poor visibility due to amniotic fluid turbidity, and variability in illumination.

Timing alterations occur in Alzheimer's disease (AD), even in early stages (mild cognitive impairment, MCI). Moreover, a stage named subjective cognitive decline (SCD), in which individuals perceive a change in cognitive performance not revealed by neuropsychological tests, has been identified as a preclinical phase of AD. However, no study to date has investigated different dimensions of time processing along the continuum from physiological to pathological aging, and whether timing alterations occur in SCD.

Toward a navigation framework for fetoscopy.

Purpose: Fetoscopic laser photocoagulation of placental anastomoses is the most effective treatment for twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS). A robust mosaic of placenta and its vascular network could support surgeons' exploration of the placenta by enlarging the fetoscope field-of-view. In this work, we propose a learning-based framework for field-of-view expansion from intra-operative video frames.

Multimodality imaging in marantic endocarditis associated with cancer: a multicentric cohort study.

Aims: We aimed to assess the role of multimodality imaging (MMI) in the diagnosis of marantic endocarditis (ME) associated with cancers and to describe the clinical characteristics, management, and outcome of these patients.

Methods And Results: In a retrospective multicentric study including four tertiary centres for the treatment of endocarditis in France and Belgium, patients with a diagnosis of ME were included. Demographic, MMI [echocardiography, computed tomography (CT), and 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (18F-FDG PET/CT)], and management data were collected.

Is "moderate" aortic stenosis still the right name? A review of the literature.

Current guidelines recommend aortic valve replacement for symptomatic or selected asymptomatic high-risk patients with severe aortic stenosis. Conversely, a watchful waiting attitude applies to patients with moderate aortic stenosis, regardless of their risk profile and symptoms, until the echocardiographic thresholds of severe aortic stenosis are reached. This strategy is based on data reporting high mortality in untreated severe symptomatic aortic stenosis, whereas moderate aortic stenosis has always been perceived as a non-threatening condition, with a benefit-risk balance against surgery.

Cerebellar control of fear learning via the cerebellar nuclei-Multiple pathways, multiple mechanisms?

Fear learning is mediated by a large network of brain structures and the understanding of their roles and interactions is constantly progressing. There is a multitude of anatomical and behavioral evidence on the interconnection of the cerebellar nuclei to other structures in the fear network. Regarding the cerebellar nuclei, we focus on the coupling of the cerebellar fastigial nucleus to the fear network and the relation of the cerebellar dentate nucleus to the ventral tegmental area.

Unsupervised clustering of patients with severe aortic stenosis: A myocardial continuum.

Background: Traditional statistics, based on prediction models with a limited number of prespecified variables, are probably not adequate to provide an appropriate classification of a condition that is as heterogeneous as aortic stenosis (AS).

Dystonia is often associated with functional alterations in the cerebello-thalamic pathways, which have been proposed to contribute to the disorder by propagating pathological firing patterns to the forebrain. Here, we examined the function of the cerebello-thalamic pathways in a model of DYT25 dystonia. DYT25 () mice carry a heterozygous knockout mutation of the gene, which notably disrupts striatal function, and systemic or striatal administration of oxotremorine to these mice triggers dystonic symptoms.

Chronic Levodopa therapy, the gold-standard treatment for Parkinson's Disease (PD), leads to the emergence of involuntary movements, called levodopa-induced dyskinesia (LID). Cerebellar stimulation has been shown to decrease LID severity in PD patients. Here, in order to determine how cerebellar stimulation induces LID alleviation, we performed daily short trains of optogenetic stimulations of Purkinje cells (PC) in freely moving LID mice.

Reproducibility of the 2016 American Society of Echocardiography-European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging Algorithm for Estimation of Left Ventricular Filling Pattern: Not Perfect but Good Enough.

The 2016 American Society of Echocardiography (ASE) and European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging (EACVI) guidelines for the evaluation of left ventricular diastolic function reported a new algorithm to assess diastolic function and to estimate left ventricular filling pressure (LVFP). At least five to six different parameters were necessary to conclude, each of them with their own inter-observer variability. This article examines the reproducibility of each parameter of the algorithm and its influence on the final decision of the clinician.

DiaNe: A New First-Level Computerized Tool Assessing Memory, Attention, and Visuospatial Processing to Detect Early Pathological Cognitive Decline.

Background: Detecting the beginning of cognitive decay is crucial to guarantee good management and the possible prevention of dementia progression. The present study arises from observations collected during an educational event to promote mental and physical health in which incidental neuropsychological data gathered on 290 citizens showed the importance of routine neuropsychological examination in detecting early signs of cognitive decay, since many individuals were unaware of the decrease in their cognitive efficiency.
