Posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome (PRES) is a neurologic condition defined by symptoms and imaging findings secondary to vasogenic edema in the brain. Even though not all hypertensive individuals will progress to PRES, high blood pressure is the most frequent risk factor associated with the condition. The pathophysiology of PRES is not clearly understood, but the most accepted proposed mechanism focuses on the brain's inability to regulate cerebral blood flow through constriction or dilation of vessels during extreme blood pressure.

Taking the structural information into account, we were able to tune the TEAD selectivity for a specific chemotype. However, different TEAD selectivity profiles did not affect the compound potency or efficacy in the NCI-H226 viability assay. Amides based on or analogues showed improved viability efficacy compared with the corresponding acids.

Background: Brazil is considered an epicenter for emerging and re-emerging arboviruses that significantly impact public health. The mid-sized city of São José do Rio Preto (SJdRP) in northwestern São Paulo state is considered hyperendemic for arboviral diseases, with case numbers climbing each year. Only 45 cases of chikungunya (CHIKV) were reported in the city from 2015 to 2022, indicating cryptic circulation of this virus, but cases in the state increased notably in 2023.

  • The study aimed to explore how sociodemographic, physical, lifestyle factors, and depression relate to sleep quality among pregnant teens aged 10-19 in Recife, Brazil.
  • The research involved 386 participants and found that 67.5% experienced poor sleep quality, which was significantly associated with moderate to severe depression, higher education levels, and physical symptoms related to pregnancy.
  • The results emphasize the need for better screening for sleep issues and addressing factors like depression and physical discomfort in pregnant adolescents.

Jerked beef (JB) is a high-protein convenience food but shows high degree of oxidation owing to its severe ultraprocessing. This study aimed to investigate the effect of desalting processes on oxidative stability of JB. JB were submitted to five desalting procedures: immersion in water at room temperature for 12 h without changing the water (AT12); immersion in water at room temperature for 12 h followed by boiling for 30 min and changing the water between the two procedures (AT12 + C30); immersion in boiled water for 10, 20, and 30 min (C10, C20, and C30, respectively).

S-1 MitoPlatesℱ from Biolog enable the characterization of mitochondria's function in live cells by measuring the rates of electron flow into and through the electron transport chain from different NADH or FADH producing metabolic substrates. This technology uses 96-well microplates pre-coated with triplicate repeats of a set of 31 substrates. Those 31 metabolic substrates have different routes of entry into the mitochondria, use different transporters, and are also oxidated by different dehydrogenases, producing reducing equivalents in the form of NADH or FADH.

Objective: Delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) can reduce joint range of motion and strength, cause edema, and increase joint stiffness. Here we set out to determine whether quadriceps DOMS followed by an active recovery low-intensity exercise alters jump landing biomechanics.

Methods: 3D landing kinematics, kinetics, and DOMS were evaluated in 26 healthy adults (15 women) performing drop and vertical jump landings before and after a squat protocol to induce quadriceps DOMS.

German chamomile (GC) and thermal water (TW) are widely known for their biological properties. This study explored whether combining GC with TW could promote an improvement in the bioactivities of GC infusions compared to using drinking water (DW). DW was tested at 100 °C (GC-100DW) and TW at both 100 °C (GC-100TW) and 60 °C (GC-60TW).

Skin temperature responses have been advocated to indicate exercise-induced muscle soreness and recovery status. While the evidence is contradictory, we hypothesize that the presence of muscle damage and the time window of measurement are confounding factors in the skin temperature response. The objective was to determine whether skin temperature is influenced by different workloads and the time course of temperature measurements over the following 24 h.

A new selective synthetic approach to indole derivatives bearing a tetrazole moiety has been developed. Arynes, generated in situ from -(trimethylsilyl)aryl triflates and KF, reacted smoothly with 2-(2-benzyl-2-tetrazol-5-yl)-2-azirines to give 3-(2-benzyl-2-tetrazol-5-yl)-indole derivatives with high selectivity. Deprotection of the tetrazole moiety gave 3-(1-tetrazol-5-yl)-indole derivatives.

Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus are the main vectors of arboviruses such as Dengue, Chikungunya and Zika, causing a major impact on global economic and public health. The main way to prevent these diseases is vector control, which is carried out through physical and biological methods, in addition to environmental management. Although chemical insecticides are the most effective strategy, they present some problems such as vector resistance and ecotoxicity.
