Production of agricultural crops with a low greenhouse gas (GHG) footprint is essential to mitigate the adverse effects of climate change. The inclusion of pulse crops in cereal-based rotations can enhance environmental quality by providing biologically fixed N and thereby reducing the amount of synthetic N fertilizer required for the crop rotation. The inclusion of pulse crop has the potential to reduce NO emissions from the agricultural system in both the legume phase and the subsequent wheat phase of the rotation.

Here, we employed to investigate the accumulation of carbon and inorganic phosphate in the storage organelles, polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB) and polyphosphate (PP), respectively. Using cryo-electron tomography (cryo-ET), these organelles were observed to increase in size and abundance when growth was arrested by chloramphenicol treatment.

Extant research has largely neglected this, and those pieces that did address it did not sufficiently account for different motivations of use.
Methods: Two survey studies served to explore links between minority stress, online dating use, and well-being (Study 1: = 97, Study 2: = 25,884).

In October 2019, an integrated dentistry program (iMED DENT) was implemented at the University of Hamburg and was the first of its kind in Germany. This model curriculum builds on didactic concepts that have been applied successfully for many years in curricula for human medicine, including interdisciplinary teaching, early clinical experience, and scientific education. The first year focuses on the healthy situation ("normal function") and aims to integrate the natural sciences (biology, chemistry, physics) and the basic medical subjects (anatomy, biochemistry, physiology, medical terminology) in the context of dental health.

Based on the integrated medicine program (iMED) at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf, the dental education concept was fundamentally revised and an integrated dentistry program (iMED DENT) was developed. During this process, reform goals such as interdisciplinarity between dentistry and medicine, early patient contact, and psychosocial and communicative competencies as well as a scientific orientation were defined. The second study section "From Symptom to Disease" during the second and third years of study form a link between "Normal Function" in the first year and the final training section "Therapy".

Most of the time, dental neglect (DN) appears together with a general form of neglect, and includes, apart from caries, many other negative short- and long-term effects for the affected child. In this study, the prevalence of DN in Germany and the way dental practices are currently addressing the topic are examined.

It is hypothesized that perceived stigma, prejudice events, and internalized stigma will result in a greater tendency to hide male same-sex affection. An empirical study involving = 25,884 gay and bisexual men in Germany showed that higher levels of perceived stigma and internalized stigma were associated with a greater tendency to hide male same-sex affection when in public.

The study objectives were to identify how anaesthesia care providers speak up, how their colleagues react to it, whether there is an association among speak up form and reaction, and how this reaction is associated with further speak up.
Methods: Data were collected over 3 months at a single centre in Switzerland by observing 49 anaesthesia care providers while performing induction of general anaesthesia in 53 anaesthesia teams.
Instead of a full sentence like (uttered by the passenger to a taxi driver) speakers often use fragments like to get their message across. So far there is no comprehensive and empirically supported account of why and under which circumstances speakers sometimes prefer a fragment over the corresponding full sentence. We propose an information-theoretic account to model this choice: A speaker chooses the encoding that distributes information most uniformly across the utterance in order to make the most efficient use of the hearer's processing resources (Uniform Information Density, Levy and Jaeger, 2007).
View Article and Find Full Text PDFWe investigate the underexplored question of when speakers make use of the omission phenomenon verb phrase ellipsis (VPE) in English given that the full form is also available to them. We base the interpretation of our results on the well-established information-theoretic Uniform Information Density (UID) hypothesis: Speakers tend to distribute processing effort uniformly across utterances and avoid regions of low information by omitting redundant material through, e.g.

Predictability effects on language production and comprehension are widely attested, but so far predictability has mostly been manipulated through local linguistic context, which is captured with n-gram language models. However, this method does not allow to investigate predictability effects driven by extralinguistic context.

This activity is dependent on the Trp metabolism of the host, including indole glucosinolate (IG) hydrolysis. Here, we show that resolves several Pi starvation-induced molecular processes in the host, one of which is the downregulation of auxin signaling in germ-free plants, which is restored in the presence of the fungus.

Furan fatty acids (FuFAs) are present in the lipids of some plant, fish, and microbial species and appear to function as second messengers in pathways that protect cells from membrane-damaging agents. We report here the results of chemical, genetic, and synthetic biology experiments to decipher the biosynthesis of the monomethylated FuFA, methyl 9-(3-methyl-5-pentylfuran-2-yl) nonanoate (9M5-FuFA), and its dimethyl counterpart, methyl 9-(3,4-dimethyl-5-pentylfuran-2-yl) nonanoate (9D5-FuFA), in two α-proteobacteria.

While lignin represents a major fraction of the carbon in plant biomass, biological strategies to convert the components of this heterogeneous polymer into products of industrial and biotechnological value are lacking. Syringic acid (3,5-dimethoxy-4-hydroxybenzoic acid) is a by-product of lignin degradation, appearing in lignocellulosic hydrolysates, deconstructed lignin streams, and other agricultural products. CGA009 is a known degrader of phenolic compounds under photoheterotrophic conditions via the benzoyl coenzyme A (CoA) degradation (BAD) pathway.

The receptors mediating pheromone detection in olfactory sensory neurons (OSNs) on the antenna of are unknown. Since pheromone receptors in other insects belong to the odorant receptor (OR) family and are typically co-expressed with the "sensory neuron membrane protein 1" (SNMP1), in our search for putative pheromone receptors of , we have screened the OR repertoire for receptor types that are expressed in SNMP1-positive OSNs.

Beyond its relevance for pheromone detection via the antenna, little is known about a potential expression and functional role of SNMP1 in cells of other chemosensory appendages. Here, we report that in the desert locust Schistocerca gregaria, SNMP1 is also expressed in the labial and maxillary palps of the mouthparts.

Several promising processes have been described that produce hydrocarbon drop-in biofuels based on fatty acid decarboxylation and fatty aldehyde decarbonylation. Unfortunately, besides fatty aldehyde toxicity and high reactivity, the most investigated enzyme, aldehyde-deformylating oxygenase, shows unfavorable catalytic properties which hindered high yields in previous metabolic engineering approaches.

In a quantitative survey of N = 9,235 MSM users of a gay online dating site (ODS) in Germany, the prevalence of nude pictures and gratifications sought while displaying them were investigated. About two-thirds of the participants declared that they use nude pictures in their dating profiles, with only small differences in prevalence between members of different ages, education levels, and sexual orientation.
