NPM1 is an abundant nucleolar chaperone that, in addition to facilitating ribosome biogenesis, contributes to nucleolar stress responses and tumor suppression through its regulation of the p14 Alternative Reading Frame tumor suppressor protein (p14). Oncogenic stress induces p14 to inhibit MDM2, stabilize p53 and arrest the cell cycle. Under non-stress conditions, NPM1 stabilizes p14 in nucleoli, preventing its degradation and blocking p53 activation.

Electron transfer bifurcation enables biological systems to drive unfavourable (endergonic) electron transfer by coupling it to favourable (exergonic) transfer of a second electron. In electron transfer flavoproteins (ETFs), a domain-scale conformational change is believed to sever the favourable pathway after a single electron has used it, thereby preventing the energy dissipation that would accompany exergonic transfer of the second electron. Propensity score analysis (PSA) is a prominent method to alleviate selection bias in observational studies, but missing data in covariates is prevalent and must be dealt with during propensity score estimation. Through Monte Carlo simulations, this study evaluates the use of imputation methods based on multiple random forests algorithms to handle missing data in covariates: multivariate imputation by chained equations-random forest (Caliber), proximity imputation (PI), and missForest. The results indicated that PI and missForest outperformed other methods with respect to bias of average treatment effect regardless of sample size and missing mechanisms.

The removal of organic matter and nitrogen from domestic sewage was evaluated using a system composed of two sequential reactors: an anaerobic reactor (ANR) with suspended sludge and an aerobic (AER) reactor with suspended and adhered sludge to polyurethane foams.
