  • Between January and August 2012, a study was conducted on thirty specimens of Cynoscion guatucupa fish caught off the coast of Itajaí, Brazil, to examine them for zoonotic nematodes.
  • A total of 853 larvae were identified, belonging to four species of nematodes, including three types from the Anisakidae family and one from Raphidascarididae.
  • The findings highlight significant prevalence rates for Hysterothylacium deardorffoverstreetorum (83.3%) and mark the first report of Anisakis sp. and Contracaecum sp. in this fish species in Brazil.
