The Accuracy of the S100B Protein Biomarker in the Prognosis of Patients with Acute Spinal Cord Injury.

 The role of some biomarkers such as S100 beta (S100B) has been somewhat known in determining the severity of primary acute spinal cord injury (SCI), and today, it has been the basis of various relevant studies. Therefore, this study estimates the S100B level in serum and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) in patients with spinal injuries.  This was a descriptive-analytic study.

Aldolase C Profiling in Serum after Mild Traumatic Brain Injury: A Prospective Cohort Study.

Background: After a traumatic brain injury (TBI), in addition to clinical indices, the serum level of neurological biomarkers may provide valuable diagnostic and prognostic information. The present study aimed to investigate the aldolase C (ALDOC) profile in serum for early diagnosis of brain damage in patients with mild TBI (mTBI) presented to the Emergency Department (ED).

Methods: A single-center prospective cohort study was carried out in 2018-2019 at Imam Khomeini Hospital affiliated with Mazandaran University of Medical Sciences, Sari, Iran.

Coronary Heart Disease and ABO Blood Group in Diabetic Women: A Case-Control Study.

Numerous investigations conducted in general population have reported that certain ABO blood group may increase the risk of coronary heart disease (CHD). However, this association has not been yet well established and even is less clear in diabetic patients. Considering that women with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) are at greater risk to develop CHD and have higher cardiovascular mortality, this study aimed to evaluate the association between CHD and ABO blood group in women with T2DM.

Hyperglycemia: A Predictor of Death in Severe Head Injury Patients.

Objectives: Management of hyperglycemia during an acute sickness in adults is accompanied by improved outcomes. We have designed a prospective study with meticulous attention to exclude all diabetes patients by checking hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c or glycated hemoglobin) to avoid the ill-effects of hyperglycemia in patients with traumatic head injury admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU).

Methods: This prospective study included adults with traumatic primary brain injury with a Glasgow coma score of ≤8 necessitating mechanical ventilation treated in the period 2012-2015.

Effects of Nasal Calcitonin vs. Oral Gabapentin on Pain and Symptoms of Lumbar Spinal Stenosis: A Clinical Trial Study.

Lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS) is a chronic and prevalent disease that occurs in 10.8% of the general population, mostly in old age. We designed the first clinical trial study to compare the effects of administering the nasal salmon calcitonin spray and gabapentin in patients with LSS.

Diabetes Mellitus, a New Risk Factor for Lumbar Spinal Stenosis: A Case-Control Study.

Objectives: This study aimed to determine the prevalence of diabetes mellitus in patients with spinal stenosis and lumbar vertebral disk degeneration, and the correlation of diabetes with these diseases.

Study Design: This is a cross-sectional study.

Methods: This case-control study was performed during 2012-2014 with 110 patients suffering from lumbar spinal stenosis and 110 patients with lumbar disk herniation, who were diagnosed using clinical and radiological evidences.
