Septic arthritis of the temporomandibular joint: review of the literature and report of two cases in children.

Septic arthritis of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) has a high morbidity, is infrequently reported, and has been described almost exclusively in adults. We present two cases of septic arthritis of the TMJ that occurred in children after minor blunt trauma. Literature related to septic arthritis of the TMJ was reviewed, and a composite list of cases was constructed.

Immunohistochemical evaluation of oral myxoid lesions.

Oral examples of neurothekeomas (nerve sheath myxomas), soft tissue myxomas, and focal mucinous and odontogenic myxomas were examined for selected markers. With the use of avidin-biotin complex staining procedures, these specimens of lesions were stained with antibodies to S-100 protein, neurospecific enolase, neurofilaments, desmin, and vimentin. Our results show that the use of immunohistochemical markers for these neural antigens can aid in distinguishing nerve sheath myxomas from other oral myxoid lesions.

Postreceptor regulation of insulin action in primary cultures of rat hepatocytes by oral hypoglycemic agents: effects of linogliride and chlorpropamide.

We have previously demonstrated the ability of the sulfonylurea tolazamide to potentiate insulin action in primary cultures of hepatocytes prepared from normal and streptozotocin-diabetic rats. To determine whether the pirogliride derivative linogliride, a non-sulfonylurea orally effective hypoglycemic agent, can potentiate insulin action, we evaluated the ability of linogliride to affect insulin-stimulated lipogenesis in primary cultures of hepatocytes prepared from normal rats. In addition, we also evaluated the ability of the sulfonylurea chlorpropamide to affect insulin-stimulated lipogenesis in the same in vitro system.
