Objective: To study the scope of clinical activities and the postoperational attitudes of mental health professionals responding emergently to a mass urban evacuation.

Methods: Eleven mental health care providers participating in a reception team for medical evacuees after Hurricane Katrina were asked to complete a survey seeking data regarding cases encountered, psychopharmacologic interventions, and mental health support for evacuated medical personnel. Participants rated their levels of agreement with statements characterizing various aspects of the clinical experience.

Clinicians have traditionally viewed neutrality as the primary means of promoting patient autonomy, and by extension mental health. But patients also require expert direction, want other values incorporated into their treatment, and benefit from collaborating with clinicians toward shared therapeutic objectives. A historical perspective on the physician-patient relationship reveals an evolving richness in the concepts of autonomy and neutrality.

Background: Subungual metastases from colorectal cancer are unusual and have mainly been reported in patients with lung, genitourinary, and breast cancer.

Objective: We present the case of a 72-year-old man with rectal adenocarcinoma and a subungual metastasis to the left thumb 5 years later.

Methods: A case report and a brief review of the literature of subungual metastases are given.
