Decreased incidence of febrile neutropenia in Michigan following masking and social distancing orders for the COVID-19 pandemic: A population based cohort study.

Background: It has been theorized that 75%-80% of febrile neutropenia (FN) is caused by endogenous pathogens, while up to 20% of cases are thought to be caused by a viral infection. It is unknown if precautions such as masking and social distancing reduce the risk of FN in susceptible populations.

Aim: To determine whether coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infection mitigation efforts, namely masking and social distancing, were associated with a reduction in the incidence of FN.

A Case of 45,X/46,XY Mosaicism Presenting as Swyer Syndrome.

Background: Swyer syndrome is a difference of sex development that is typically associated with mutations in genes responsible for testicular development. It is speculated that some cases may result from cryptic 45,X/46,XY mosaicism leading to abnormal gonadal development. The presence or absence of a 45,X lineage is important for prognosis and management.

Sensitization of ovarian cancer cells to cisplatin by genistein: the role of NF-kappaB.

Background: Platinum-resistance (PR) continues to be a major problem in the management of epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC). Response to various chemotherapeutic agents is poor in patients deemed PR. Genistein, a soy isoflavone has been shown to enhance the effect of chemotherapy in prostate and pancreatic cancer cells in vitro and in vivo by reversing chemo-resistance phenotype.

Image-guided percutaneous cryotherapy for the management of gynecologic cancer metastases.

Objective: To report the clinical response to image-guided percutaneous cryotherapy (IPC) for the palliative management of localized metastases in patients with gynecologic malignancies.

Methods: Institutional review board approval and patient consent were obtained. Gynecologic oncology patients were identified from our institution's cryotherapy database from August 2003 to August 2007.

Clinical update of smooth muscle tumors of the uterus.

Smooth muscle tumors of the uterus represent a spectrum of diseases that range from benign leiomyoma to malignant leiomyosarcoma. The leiomyoma is the most common of these neoplasms. Clinically, it is important to fully understand the differences in clinical presentation, biologic behavior, and management for patients with benign leiomyoma, smooth muscle tumors of uncertain malignant potential, and leiomyosarcoma.
