Chemical analysis of hazardous surface contaminations, such as hazardous substances, explosives or illicit drugs, is an essential task in security, environmental and safety applications. This task is mostly based on the collection of particles with swabs, followed by thermal desorption into a vapor analyzer, usually a detector based on ion mobility spectrometry (IMS). While this methodology is well established for several civil applications, such as border control, it is still not efficient enough for various conditions, as in sampling rough and porous surfaces.

Male breast infection is uncommon and most often associated with trauma to the skin or predisposing conditions like diabetes. We report the first case to our knowledge of primary breast actinomycosis in the male breast caused by Actinomycesneuii (A.

This article reviews the imaging findings of selected mesenchymal breast lesions, their clinical presentations and method of diagnosis.

Methods: A retrospective study was performed to review the clinical presentation, imaging findings and biopsy methods in patients with granulomatous mastitis. Twenty-seven patients with pathology-proven granulomatous mastitis were included.

Granular cell tumor (myoblastoma) is a rare soft tissue tumor that can present in the breast, producing mammographic and physical exam findings that may be indistinguishable from breast carcinoma. Multifocal lesions in male patients are very unusual. We present a case of a male patient with a granular cell tumor of the breast that was imaged on mammography and sonography.

The purpose of this series was to review the spectrum of clinical and sonographic features associated with infection after nipple piercing. Between 2002 and 2010, 6 patients presented to our breast center with a breast abscess after nipple piercing. A retrospective analysis of the imaging findings was performed with clinical and pathologic correlation.

Therefore, the radiologist in the emergency department must be familiar with the pathology encountered and the associated imaging findings. While mammography is the most commonly and frequently used modality for breast imaging, in the emergency setting, ultrasound may be more readily available and better tolerated by the patient.

Conclusion: Mucocelelike lesions are more common than previously reported and are likely to exhibit indeterminate calcifications on mammography. Diagnosis is most often made with Mammotome biopsy.

Objective: A retrospective review of our experience with advanced breast biopsy instrumentation (ABBI) was undertaken to evaluate its efficacy for excisional breast biopsy of lesions detected on mammography. To our knowledge, experience with ABBI has not been previously reported in the radiology literature.
Materials And Methods: Biopsies using the ABBI system and an adapted dedicated table were performed in 53 patients who had 54 mammographically evident lesions.
Experience with mammographic examination of the reconstructed breast after mastectomy is limited. Typical mammographic changes associated with breast reconstruction are described. When these changes are identified on mammography, they can prevent patients from having unnecessary biopsies and can alleviate patient anxiety.

More patients are now being seen with implant failures in mammography departments. Very little attention has been paid to the mammographic findings and their significance until recently in the plastic surgery literature.

Tubular carcinoma is usually found incidentally during screening mammography. It can be differentiated from conventional breast cancers by its smallness and the lack of palpable findings on physical examination of the breast.

With recent advances in imaging of the augmented breast and the increase in popularity of augmentation mammoplasty, more of these patients are undergoing mammography. We reviewed the mammograms and clinical history of 25 women with breast implants and breast cancer.

Materials And Methods: We analyzed the results of mammography performed in 17 patients; all women had palpable axillary lymphadenopathy of unknown origin and all had normal breasts on physical examination.
Results: In 10 of the 17 patients, mammographic findings were abnormal.
Silicone rupture is a known complication of closed capsulotomy. Imaging of silicone within breast tissue after rupture of an implant is not uncommon. Intraductal extension of silicone on mammography is a very rare finding.

New issues are being raised in light of this recent increase, making it essential for patients and health care providers to understand the limitations of mammography and how to best minimize problems.

The mammogram or sonogram was abnormal in 10 patients, including six with an abnormal mammographic density or ultrasound study and four with calcifications. One patient had dense breasts and no suspicious findings at mammography.

The diagnoses included ovarian cyst (27), endometrioma (12), complex cyst (four), dermoid (three), infection (three), ovarian malignancy (two), and uterine fibroid (three). The final diagnosis was made surgically in 41 patients (61%) and by a combination of sonographic and clinical correlation in the remaining patients.
