Background: Significant blood loss is still one of the most frequent complications in spinal surgery, which often necessitates blood transfusion. Massive perioperative blood loss and blood transfusion can create additional risks. Aprotinin, tranexamic acid (TXA), and epsilon-aminocaproic acid (EACA) are antifibrinolytics currently offered as prophylactic agents to reduce surgery-associated blood loss.

The bulk density of sintered magnesia is significantly influenced by molding methodology and blank size of the green body during dry pressing. The entrapped air in the green body plays a critical role in determining the bulk density of magnesia samples. Herein, high-density magnesia samples, with different sizes, are prepared by using vacuum compaction molding and conventional compaction molding.

In this study, magnetic graphene oxide modified zeolite (Cu-Z-GO-M) composites with two different ratios of GO to zeolite (named Cu-Z-GO-M 1:2 and Cu-Z-GO-M 1:1) were synthesized by solid-state dispersion (SSD) method. The properties of zeolite-based composites were characterized by SEM, XRD, FTIR, XPS, and magnetization curves. In order to understand the pollutant removal performance of the as-prepared composites, methylene blue (MB) was used as the target pollutant in adsorption experiments.

Chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) immunotherapy has recently shown promise in clinical trials for B-cell malignancies; however, designing CARs for T-cell based diseases remain a challenge since most target antigens are shared between normal and malignant cells, leading to CAR-T cell fratricide. CD7 is highly expressed in T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T-ALL), but it is not expressed in one small group of normal T lymphocytes. Here, we constructed monovalent CD7-CAR-NK-92MI and bivalent dCD7-CAR-NK-92MI cells using the CD7 nanobody VHH6 sequences from our laboratory.

Sustained visual attention is a well-studied cognitive capacity that is relevant to many developmental outcomes. The development of visual attention is often construed as an increased capacity to exert top-down internal control. We demonstrate that sustained visual attention, measured in terms of momentary eye gaze, emerges from and is tightly tied to sensory-motor coordination.

Altered DNA methylation is a key feature of cancer, and aberrant methylation is important in nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) development. However, the methylation mechanisms underlying metastasis of NPC remain unclear. Analyzing data from public databases and conducting our own experiments, we report here that promoter hypermethylation of is common and contributes to the downregulation of this gene in many types of tumors, including NPC.

Uncontrollable itch-scratching cycles lead to serious skin damage in patients with chronic itch. However, the neural mechanism promoting the itch-scratching cycle remains elusive. Here, we report that tachykinin 1 (Tac1)-expressing glutamatergic neurons in the lateral and ventrolateral periaqueductal gray (l/vlPAG) facilitate the itch-scratching cycle.

Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) progression is regulated by genetic, epigenetic, and epitranscript modulation. As one of the epitranscript modifications, the role of N6-Methyladenosine (mA) has not been elucidated in NPC. In the present study, we found that the poorly methylated gene ZNF750 (encoding zinc finger protein 750) was downregulated in NPC tumor tissues and cell lines.

Drug resistance and cancer cells metastasis have been the leading causes of chemotherapy failure and cancer-associated death in breast cancer patients. In present, various active molecules either exhibiting novel mechanism of action such as inducing autophagy or inhibiting metastasis have been developed to address these problems. However, the compounds exhibiting such dual functions have rarely been described.

In this study, Fe-modified goethite with low defects (α-Fe(Fe)OOH) was synthesized and characterized. Results revealed that α-Fe(Fe)OOH is a nano magnetic material with goethite (α-FeOOH) -type structures and has fewer Lewis acid of Fe on its surface. Moreover, α-Fe(Fe)OOH was effective in catalytic ozonation of 4-chloronitrobenzene (4-CNB), which is a probe contaminant that cannot be efficiently removed through sole ozonation.

Nitric oxide (NO) donors are ideal drug candidates for reducing intraocular pressure in the treatment of glaucoma. However, poor cornea penetration, short duration of efficacy, and narrow therapeutic index of most NO donors obstruct their clinical applications in glaucoma treatment. This study reports a novel NO donor delivery system based on mesoporous silica nanoparticles that can readily overcome the above difficulties and deliver the NO-donating drug sodium nitroprusside to the target tissues (trabecular meshwork and Schlemm's canal).

Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigates the role of the RNA binding protein FUS in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and its unclear functions in cancer progression.
  • - Researchers used various molecular biology techniques to examine how FUS affects HCC cell behaviors, including viability and migration, and its relationship with tumor suppressors LATS1/2.
  • - Results indicated that FUS overexpression inhibits HCC progression by stabilizing LATS1/2, activating the Hippo pathway, and that both FUS and LATS1/2 levels are lower in HCC tissues, suggesting their potential role as therapeutic targets.
