Five pairs of new epimeric lanostane-type triterpenoids, abiespirones A-D (1-4) and G (7), two pairs of new epimeric cycloartane-type triterpenoids, abiespirones E and F (5, 6), and a pair of new epimeric 7(8→9)abeo-spirolanostane abiespirones H (8) with spiro-B/C and -E/F ring systems were isolated from Abies faxoniana as inseparable mixtures of C-23 epimers in a specific proportion. The HPLC plots showed that each purified isomer rapidly equilibrated with the C-23 epimer in solution. The structures of compounds 1-8 were elucidated by analysis of the NMR spectra and single-crystal X-ray diffraction.

Previous studies have demonstrated that its derivative abiesenonic acid methyl ester possesses anti-tumor-promoting activity in vitro and in vivo. In the present study, cell viability assay demonstrated that abieslactone had selective cytotoxicity against human hepatoma cell lines.

However, the effect of double application of edaravone on neurogenesis in the hippocampus following ischemia remains unknown. In the present study, we explored whether pre- and posttreatment of edaravone had any effect on neural stem/progenitor cells (NSPCs) in the subgranular zone of hippocampus in a rat model of transient global cerebral ischemia and elucidated the potential mechanism of its effects.

Here, we identified an herb-derived sesquiterpene lactone compound IJ-5 as a preferential inhibitor of UbcH5 and explored its therapeutic value in inflammatory and autoimmune disease models. IJ-5 suppresses TNF-α-induced NF-κB activation and inflammatory gene transcription by inhibiting the ubiquitination of receptor-interacting protein 1 and NF-κB essential modifier, which is essential to IκB kinase activation.

Among them, 1-3 are the first three 2,4-linked exo-Diels-Alder adducts between a eudesmanolide dienophile and a guaianolide diene. The absolute configurations of 1-4 were unambiguously established by Cu Kα X-ray crystallographic analyses.

Determining and responding to the genetic status of captive populations is therefore paramount to these programs. Here, we genotyped 19 microsatellite loci for 240 captive giant pandas (Ailuropoda melanoleuca) (∼64% of the captive population) from four breeding centers, Wolong (WL), Chengdu (CD), Louguantai (LGT), and Beijing (BJ), and analyzed 655 bp of mitochondrial DNA control region sequence for 220 of these animals.

Somatostatin (SST) has been demonstrated to reduce local and systemic inflammation reactions and maintain the integrity of the blood-brain barrier (BBB). To determine the beneficial effect of SST on lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced damage of the tight junction (TJ) and its mechanisms, Caco2 cells pretreated with SST (1nM) or MEK inhibitor U0126 (10μM) were exposed to LPS.

Unlike the existing drugs that damage nuclear acid molecules, maslinic acid (MA) displays anti-tumor function in various types of cancers by targeting specific intracellular signaling pathways and is regarded as a promising agent for future clinical cancer therapy. However, its effect on bladder cancer is still unknown.

Introduction: The plants of the genus Inula (Asteraceae) are widely distributed throughout Europe, Africa and Asia, and many of these plants have long been used in folk medicine. This genus is a rich source of sesquiterpenoids, which exhibit a wide range of biological activities. Recently, a series of bioactive sesquiterpenoid dimers, with unusual carbon skeletons, have been reported and these have gathered considerable interest.

Huang-Lian-Jie-Du-Tang (HLJDT) is a traditional formula that has long been used for treatment of inflammatory diseases in Traditional Chinese Medicine. In this study, we examined its protective effect against sepsis in an experimental septic model induced by cecal ligation and puncture (CLP) in rats. The results demonstrated that prophylactic administration of HLJDT protected rats from CLP-induced lethality and ameliorated CLP-induced liver and lung injury.
