Circular RNAs (circRNAs) have recently been reported to play crucial roles in various regulatory processes and involved in cancer onset and progression. However, the potential mechanism of circRNAs in chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) remains largely unknown. Here, we observed hsa_circ_0132266 (circ_0132266), a circRNA significantly decreased in the peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) of CLL patients compared with healthy donors, could act as an endogenous sponge of hsa-miR-337-3p (miR-337-3p) and regulate its activity, which resulted in a downstream change of target-gene PML and a consequent influence on cell viability.

Exploiting a rapid and sensitive method for biomarker detection has important implications in the early diagnosis of diseases. Here, we synthesized MnO microspheres which worked as a nanozyme to exhibit outstanding oxidase-like activity for rapid colorimetric determination of glutathione (GSH). The MnO microspheres of about 800 nm in size could be prepared through a hydrothermal method, and we found that the as-prepared MnO microspheres could quickly oxidize 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) to its oxidized form (TMBox) in the absence of HO.

The pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease (AD) is characterized by both accumulation of β-amyloid (Aβ) plaque and formation of neurofibrillary tangles in the brain. Recent evidence shows that autophagy activation may potently promote intracellular Aβ clearance. Thus targeting autophagy becomes a promising strategy for discovery of drug leads against AD.

Red blood cell distribution width (RDW), which measures the range of variation of red blood cell volume, has been explored as a prognostic factor in multiple types of cancer. However, the role of RDW in mantle cell lymphoma (MCL), a rare type of non-Hodgkin lymphoma with poor outcomes, remains to be determined. Therefore, we investigated the prognostic role of RDW in MCL.

Background: Although risk stratification of mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) is most frequently performed using the simplified MCL International Prognostic Index (sMIPI), the identification of host-related factors and tumor microenvironment, including absolute monocyte counts (AMC) and peripheral blood T lymphocyte subsets, especially absolute natural killer cell counts (ANKC) has been suggested to be critical in the prediction of prognosis and the guidance of treatment.

Objective: This study was aimed at investigating whether peripheral blood ANKC and AMC at diagnosis had an impact on MCL prognosis.

Methods: A total of 92 newly diagnosed MCL patients was enrolled in this retrospective study.

Tin (Sn) has wide prospects in applications as an anode electrode material for Li-ion batteries, due to its high theoretical specific capacity. However, the large volume expansion of Sn during the charge-discharge process causes a performance reduction of lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). Here, Sn encapsulated N-doped porous carbon fibers (Sn/NPCFs) were synthesized through an electrospinning method with a pyrolysis process.

Neural stem cell (NSC) transplantation exerts a therapeutic effect on spinal cord injury (SCI) but is limited to an unregulated differentiation pattern by which NSCs preferentially differentiate into astrocytes, with relatively few neurons. It is well established that the increased NSC-derived astrocytes exhibit aberrant axonal sprouting associated with allodynia-like symptoms of the forepaws. Some strategies have been used to overcome this issue, such as regulation of major pathways, ex vivo gene transfer, and genetic overexpression.

Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC), the fourth leading cause of cancer-related death in the United States, is highly aggressive and resistant to both chemo- and radiotherapy. It remains one of the most difficult-to-treat cancers, not only due to its unique pathobiological features such as stroma-rich desmoplastic tumors surrounded by hypovascular and hypoperfused vessels limiting the transport of therapeutic agents, but also due to problematic early detection, which renders most treatment options largely ineffective, resulting in extensive metastasis. To elevate therapeutic effectiveness of treatments and overt their toxicity, significant enthusiasm was generated to exploit new strategies for combating PDAC.
