Accurate modeling of DNA sequences requires capturing distant semantic relationships between the nucleotide acid bases. Most existing deep neural network models face two challenges: (1) they are limited to short DNA fragments and cannot capture long-range interactions, and (2) they require many supervised labels, which is often expensive in practice. N6-methyladenosine (mA) serves as one of the crucial RNA modifications for genes involved in cancer progression. Here, 7273 expression quantitative trait loci potentially regulating 30 m6A pathway genes are identified from the GTEx database, with 69 single nucleotide polymorphisms significantly associated with survival of non-small cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC) patients (n = 1523) from the ongoing genome-wide association study after false positive probability tests. Notably, the rs151198415 locus, situated in a potential enhancer region, demonstrated a prolonged survival effect with the C>CCACG insertion, which is validated in an independent prospective cohort (n = 237), yielding a pooled hazard ratio of 0.

Objective: This review aims to provide an overview of the role of microorganisms in the onset and progression of periapical diseases, particularly regarding their effects on bone homeostasis.

Design: The search for this narrative review was conducted in PubMed, Web of Science and Google Scholar using relevant keywords, including checking reference lists of journal articles by hand searching.

Results: Microorganisms directly promote osteoclasts through pathways such as nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB) and extracellular regulated protein kinases (ERK), while inhibiting osteoblasts function by interfering with the wingless-related integration site (Wnt)/β-catenin pathway in the periapical area.
