Introduction: The project "Digital unterstützte Prostatakrebsnachsorge in Schleswig-Holstein" (Digitally supported prostate cancer aftercare in Schleswig-Holstein) funded by the federal state of Schleswig-Holstein aims to test the app "Nachsorge-Pass" (Patient Aftercare Book) in the care of prostate cancer patients after seed brachytherapy. In order to evaluate the app from the patient perspective a qualitative study was conducted which examined usability, usefulness and potential for improvement.

Methods: All patients using the app at the start of the study were invited to participate in semi-structured telephone interviews; 12 of 20 users (60%) followed the invitation.

Background: Side effects due to prostate cancer therapy and psychosocial strain are not always recognised during follow-up, which may result in the absence of appropriate therapy offers. Recent studies have shown a potential for improving care by integrating digital technologies like smartphone apps.

Background: For people with dementia high-quality care is vital, since at present dementia cannot be cured. In nursing homes this care is provided by the staff, who therefore require dementia-specific training enabling them to improve the quality of life for people with dementia.

Objective: This article compares existing dementia-specific training for nursing home staff with recommendations, based on the current state of research, by the Alzheimer's Association and the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence, and discusses the outcome of this training.

Central pain below the injury level after spinal cord injury is excruciating, chronic and resistive to treatment. Animal studies suggest that pretreatment may prevent central pain, but to date there are no measures to predict its development. Our aim was to monitor changes in the sensory profile below the lesion prior to the development of below-level central pain in order to search for a parameter that could predict its risk and to further explore its pathophysiology.

Quantitative susceptibility mapping (QSM) based on gradient echo (GRE) magnetic resonance phase data is a novel technique for non-invasive assessment of magnetic tissue susceptibility differences. The method is expected to be an important means to determine iron distributions in vivo and may, thus, be instrumental for elucidating the physiological role of iron and disease-related iron concentration changes associated with various neurological and psychiatric disorders. This study introduces a framework for QSM and demonstrates calculation of reproducible and orientation-independent susceptibility maps from GRE data acquired at 3T.

From a cross between a tumor-susceptible syngeneic mouse strain (DBA/2) and a tumor resistant MHC congenic strain (B10.D2) new recombinant inbred mouse strains were established over many generations of inbreeding and tumor resistance selection. The resistance selected against one DBA/2 derived malignant tumor (ESb) extended to other DBA/2 malignant tumors (SL 2, MDAY-D2) and was thus of more general significance.

Air filter sets (classes EU6 and EU9, or EU6 and S) were tested for their efficiency in protecting laboratory animals against potential airborne infections. Flexible-film isolators were used as a smaller scale model. In the first experiment, lasting 7 months, it was tested whether minute virus of mice (MVM) was able to penetrate the air filters between one isolator containing experimentally infected mice and another with MVM negative mice.

We describe a case of human T-lymphotropic virus type I (HTLV-I)-associated transient benign immature T-cell lymphocytosis in a black female patient, which over the course of several months underwent spontaneous complete remission. The patient presented with a white blood cell count of 20,000/microliter and a T4/T8 ratio of 1.7:1.

The in vitro transformation of normal T-lymphocytes by human T-cell leukemia/lymphoma virus (HTLV-I) is possible utilizing cocultivation techniques. We now report on a quantitative assay for HTLV-I transformation. Transformed cell lines were produced by cocultivation of either preactivated (phytohemagglutinin and T-cell growth factor) or nonactivated peripheral blood mononuclear cells with an equal number of lethally irradiated HTLV-I-positive donor cells (MT-2).
