- Wounding Arabidopsis thaliana leaves triggers a transient immune response against Botrytis cinerea, driven by reactive oxygen species (ROS) formation.
- After gentle mechanical stimulation, the leaves also exhibit a strong resistance to the fungus without causing tissue damage, marked by changes in calcium levels and cuticle permeability.
- This response to soft mechanical stress occurs independently of jasmonate signaling and includes the release of substances that can further boost resistance in unaffected leaves.
