Background: Adverse non-motor outcomes have a major impact on patients and caregivers after stroke, but knowledge of their prevalence, predictors and patterns across multiple health domains remains limited; we therefore aimed to obtain these data in a large observational prospective cohort study.
Methods: We included data from the Stroke Investigation Group in North and Central London (SIGNAL) registry based at the University College London Hospitals (UCLH) Comprehensive Stroke Service which serves a multi-ethnic population of ∼1.6 million people.
Background: Speech comprehension impairment in post-stroke aphasia is influenced by speech acoustics. This study investigated the impact of speech rhythm (syllabic isochrony) and rate on comprehension in people with aphasia (PWA). Rhythmical speech was hypothesised to support comprehension in PWA by reducing temporal variation, leading to enhanced speech tracking and more appropriate sampling of the speech stream.

Grain boundaries are critical in determining the properties of materials, including mechanical stability, conductivity, and corrosion resistance. The specific properties of materials depend not only on the misorientation of the crystals, the three most commonly characterized parameters, but also on the angle of the grain boundary plane between the two crystals, the final two parameters in the five-parameter macroscopic description of the grain boundary. View Article and Find Full Text PDFPurpose Of Review: There continue to be a plethora of approaches to the rehabilitation of hemispatial inattention, from different forms of sensory stimulation (visual, auditory and somatosensory feedback), through all major modes of non-invasive brain stimulation to drug therapies. Here we summarise trials published in the years 2017-2022 and tabulate their effect sizes, with the aim of drawing on common themes that may serve to inform future rehabilitative studies.
Recent Findings: Immersive virtual reality approaches to visual stimulation seem well tolerated, although they have yet to yield any clinically relevant improvements.
Liquid-phase transmission electron microscopy (LP-TEM) enables one to directly visualize the formation of plasmonic nanoparticles and their postsynthetic modification, but the relative contributions of plasmonic hot electrons and radiolysis to metal precursor reduction remain unclear. Here we show silver deposition onto plasmonic gold nanorods (AuNRs) during LP-TEM is dominated by water radiolysis-induced chemical reduction. Silver was observed with LP-TEM to form bipyramidal shells at higher surfactant coverage and tip-preferential lobes at lower surfactant coverage.
