Purpose: To evaluate the functional outcomes of surgical treatment for proximal hamstring avulsion injuries in patients aged over 50 years and to compare the results across another matched group of patients under 50.
Methods: This was a retrospective analysis of prospectively collected data in a matched case-control design targeting patients with proximal hamstring avulsion injuries who underwent surgical treatment at a sports surgery referral centre. Patients over 50 years with complete avulsion or partial injury (>2 cm retraction) were included.
Background: While there are several scales for measuring patients' outcomes after chronic ankle instability (CAI) surgery, a study comparing the predictive ability of these scores with regard to return to sports (RTS) at the preinjury level is lacking.
Purpose/hypothesis: The purpose of this study was to compare the Ankle Ligament Reconstruction-Return to Sport After Injury (ALR-RSI), American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS), and Karlsson scores in predicting 2-year RTS outcomes after arthroscopic treatment of CAI. It was hypothesized that ALR-RSI would be superior in predicting 2-year RTS outcomes after CAI surgery and that a quantifiable increase in this score would significantly improve RTS outcomes.

Unlabelled: Newborn screening for cystic fibrosis (CF-NBS) using an IRT-DNA algorithm with a 12 CFTR-variant panel and an IRT/IRT failsafe was officially implemented in the French-speaking Community of Belgium in January 2020. Purpose: To introduce a new magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) sign, termed the Cobra sign, and identify its diagnostic metrics. The secondary aim was to demonstrate that this sign can be a source of false evaluation of tendon retraction in patients with proximal hamstring avulsion injury.
Method: This retrospective cohort study targeted patients surgically treated for proximal hamstring avulsion injury from January 2019 to June 2023.

Purpose: The purpose of the study was to evaluate how the initial diagnostic tool used-specifically ultrasound (US) or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-for diagnosing proximal hamstring avulsion injury affects the delay before surgery and, secondarily, the outcomes of these injuries.

Purpose/hypothesis: We aimed to develop and validate a French version of the short ACL-RSI scale.
Background & Aims: Barrett's esophagus is the precursor of esophageal dysplasia and esophageal adenocarcinoma. CDKN2A-p16 deletions were reported in 34%-74% of patients with Barrett's esophagus who progressed to dysplasia and esophageal adenocarcinoma, suggesting that p16 loss may drive neoplastic progression. KRAS activation frequently occurs in esophageal adenocarcinoma and precancer lesions.

The use of the iliotibial band (ITB) augmented with allograft (AG) is an encouraging graft alternative for ACLR in terms of clinical and biomechanical data in the literature.

The Caucasian viper Macrovipera lebetina obtusa (MLO) is one of the most prevalent and venomous snakes in the Caucasus and the surrounding regions, yet the effects of MLO venom on cardiac function remain largely unknown. We examined the influence of MLO venom (crude and with inhibited metalloproteinases and phospholipase A) on attachment and metabolic activity of rat neonatal cardiomyocytes (CM) and nonmyocytes (nCM), assessed at 1 and 24 h. After exposing both CM and nCM to varying concentrations of MLO venom, we observed immediate cytotoxic effects at a concentration of 100 μg/ml, causing detachment from the culture substrate.
