Predictors of the length of stay in psychiatric inpatient units: a retrospective study for the Paris Psychiatry Hospital Group.

Objective: Shortening the length of hospital stay (LOS) has become a major challenge for psychiatric hospitals in reducing unnecessary costs and improving the patient healthcare experience. We investigated the key factors associated with a long psychiatric hospitalization.

Method: This was a retrospective study of 8,870 full-time psychiatric hospital stays (6,216 patients) in the Paris Psychiatry Hospital Group, with a discharge in 2022.

Hydrodynamic Mechanism for Clumping along the Equatorial Rings of SN1987A and Other Stars.

An explanation for the origin and number of clumps along the equatorial ring of Supernova 1987A has eluded decades of research. Our linear analysis and hydrodynamic simulations of the expanding ring prior to the supernova reveal that it is subject to the Crow instability between vortex cores. The dominant wave number is remarkably consistent with the number of clumps, suggesting that the Crow instability stimulates clump formation.

Mental health in adolescents with obesity: conflicting views among physicians, a qualitative study.

Mental health issues in adolescents with obesity are multifold, with no explicit screening recommendations. The aim of this research is to explore how this screening is performed by physicians and, thus, how it impacts adolescents' care pathways, offering insights into how to improve it through a qualitative study using interpretative phenomenological analysis. Twenty physicians (non-psychiatrist physicians and child and adolescent psychiatrists) involved at various stages in the care pathway were interviewed with semi-structured questionnaires.

Saturation of Vortex Rings Ejected from Shock-Accelerated Interfaces.

Structures evoking vortex rings can be discerned in shock-accelerated flows ranging from astrophysics to inertial confinement fusion. By constructing an analogy between vortex rings produced in conventional propulsion systems and rings generated by a shock impinging upon a high-aspect-ratio protrusion along a material interface, we extend classical, constant-density vortex-ring theory to compressible multifluid flows. We further demonstrate saturation of such vortex rings as the protrusion aspect ratio is increased, thus explaining morphological differences observed in practice.

Chronic conditions, subjective wellbeing and risky sexual behaviour among adolescents and young adults.

The purpose of this study is to clarify the relationship between having a chronic condition (CC) and several types of risky sexual behaviour (RSB) among adolescents and young adults. We used data from a multicentre cross-sectional study carried out on 14,431 adolescents from 137 French schools. Logistic regression was used to assess the association between several types of RSB and CCs among the 2680 participants aged 17 years or over who reported sexual intercourse.

COVID-19 Impact on Stroke Admissions during France's First Epidemic Peak: An Exhaustive, Nationwide, Observational Study.

Introduction: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic continues to have great impacts on the care of non-COVID-19 patients. This was especially true during the first epidemic peak in France, which coincided with the national lockdown. The aim of this study was to identify whether a decrease in stroke admissions occurred in spring 2020, by analyzing the evolution of all stroke admissions in France from January 2019 to June 2020.

Chronic idiopathic musculoskeletal pain in youth: a qualitative study.

Background: Chronic musculoskeletal pain (MSP) is frequent in adolescents and has major medical and social consequences. In many cases, when no cause has been clearly established, this pain may be considered to be chronic idiopathic MSP. Our study seeks to identify general criteria for this type of pain through the experience of professionals from tertiary care centers with expertise in pediatric and adolescent chronic MSP.

Research in adolescent healthcare: The value of qualitative methods.

Background: The vast majority of publications about adolescent healthcare use a quantitative methodology that often involves long and expensive research protocols with results that do not always provide answers adequate to the complexity of the questions being asked. The qualitative method is sometimes a more effective alternative for exploring some of these. This method can be defined from its objective, which is to generate theoretical hypotheses, its mandatory consideration of the researcher's subjectivity, and the importance it ascribes to the context of the participants' experience.

A platform for x-ray Thomson scattering measurements of radiation hydrodynamics experiments on the NIF.

We present an experimental design for a radiation hydrodynamics experiment at the National Ignition Facility that measures the electron temperature of a shocked region using the x-ray Thomson scattering technique. Previous National Ignition Facility experiments indicate a reduction in Rayleigh-Taylor instability growth due to high energy fluxes, compared to the shocked energy flux, from radiation and electron heat conduction. In order to better quantify the effects of these energy fluxes, we modified the previous experiment to allow for non-collective x-ray Thomson scattering to measure the electron temperature.

HPV vaccination rate in French adolescent girls: an example of vaccine distrust.
