Stratified films offer high performance and multifunctionality, yet achieving fully stratified films remains a challenge. The layer-by-layer method, involving the sequential deposition of each layer, has been commonly utilized for stratified film fabrication. However, this approach is time-consuming, labor-intensive, and prone to leaving defects within the film.

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a complex neurodegenerative disorder marked by the gradual deterioration of dopaminergic neurons, especially in the substantia nigra pars compacta (SNc). Dysregulation of the transcription factor FoxO1 is associated with various neurodegenerative conditions, including Alzheimer's disease and PD, though the specific mechanisms involved are not fully understood. This study explores the effects of α-Synuclein preformed fibrils (PFF) on BV-2 microglial cells, focusing on changes in molecular characteristics and their impact on neuronal degeneration.

Proton-activated chloride (PAC) channels, ubiquitously expressed in tissues, regulate intracellular Cl levels and cell death following acidosis. However, molecular mechanisms and signaling pathways involved in PAC channel modulation are largely unknown. Herein, we determine that phosphatidylinositol 4,5-bisphosphate [PI(4,5)P] of the plasma membrane inner leaflet is essential for the proton activation of PAC channels.

Currently, the supply of beta cells for islet transplantation in the treatment of type 1 diabetes is limited. Enteroendocrine cells (EECs) are believed to have high potential as stem cells because they share significant developmental similarities with beta cells. In a previous study, we derived EEC cells that secrete individual gut hormones from STC-1 cells.

Nucleoside-modified mRNA technology has revolutionized vaccine development with the success of mRNA COVID-19 vaccines. We used modified mRNA technology for the design of envelopes (Env) to induce HIV-1 broadly neutralizing antibodies (bnAbs). However, unlike SARS-CoV-2 neutralizing antibodies that are readily made, HIV-1 bnAb induction is disfavored by the immune system because of the rarity of bnAb B cell precursors and the cross-reactivity of bnAbs targeting certain Env epitopes with host molecules, thus requiring optimized immunogen design.

Article Synopsis
  • Tylosin, an antibiotic used for respiratory infections in pigs, was studied to see how it affects gut bacteria in healthy versus infected pigs.
  • The study found that infected pigs had less diversity in their gut microbiota compared to healthy pigs after receiving tylosin treatment, with notable differences in specific bacterial groups.
  • Although gut microbiota changes were significant, the relationship between these changes and tylosin pharmacokinetics (how the drug behaves in the body) was not clearly established.
