In a proteomic analysis of rpoS-deficient Vibrio vulnificus versus the wild type, one of the down-regulated proteins in the rpoS mutant strain was identified as a Fur protein, a ferric uptake regulator. The expression of a fur::luxAB fusion was significantly influenced by sigma factor S, the rpoS gene product, and positively regulated by Fur under iron-limited conditions.

They also activate mature myeloid cells to mediate a variety of antimicrobial activities and inflammatory responses. Recombinant GM-CSF and G-CSF proteins have been used to treat various diseases including cancer and hematopoietic diseases and to isolate peripheral blood progenitor cells for bone marrow transplantation.

In order to determine how the AIP1 fraction exhibits the immunomodulating activity, the effect of the fraction on the apoptosis of mouse spleen cells was investigated. Treatment of the mouse spleen cells with the AIP1 fraction resulted in the suppression of apoptotic death and an extension of cell survival in culture, indicating that the fraction might modulate the death of spleen cells.

The gene encoding rice allene oxide synthase, OsAOS, was intronless and had nucleotide sequences with the high GC content of 67%. Deduced amino acid sequences had very high similarity with other AOS proteins, in particular 74% similarity to barley, characterized by the conserved motifs of P450 cytochrome of the CYP74A family. Purified recombinant rice AOS protein expressed in Escherichia coli converted 13-hydroperoxylinolenic acid to allene oxide.
