Background: Zebrafish are widely used in various research fields and to fulfil the diverse research needs, numerous zebrafish lines are available, each with a unique domestication background, potentially resulting in intraspecies differences in specific biological functions. Few studies have compared multiple zebrafish lines under identical conditions to investigate both inter- and intra-line variability related to different functions. However, such variability could pose a challenge for the reproducibility of results in studies utilising zebrafish, particularly when the line used is not clearly specified.

Eurasian perch is an important fish species for European aquaculture diversification, but the quality of reproduction still remains one of the main limitations for further industry development. In particular, the optimal condition to obtain the best quality of sperm is poorly understood. In 2016, a total of 5 massive mortality episodes each affecting hundreds of thousands of pike-perch Sander lucioperca larvae occurred at 2 sites in 2 Western European countries. For each episode, perhabdoviruses related to the perch rhabdovirus (PRV) were detected in samples, using either PCR or cell culture combined with PCR. The sequences of the glycoprotein (g), phosphoprotein (p) and nucleoprotein (n) genes of these samples demonstrated that 2 different genotypes were present at 1 site, each associated with 1 of the 3 episodes.

The effect of a constant photoperiod on the inhibition of male and female reproductive cycles was studied in pikeperch Sander lucioperca. Over a 153-day period, batches of pikeperch (2 years, 950 g) breeders were kept under either under natural or artificial photoperiod conditions (24L:0D) (30-35 fish/tank, triplicate) and sampled in late June (start of the photoperiod decrease in natural conditions), late August (start of temperature decrease) and late November (exogenous vitellogenesis) (7-10 fish/tank/sampling date). Nitrogen and carbon stable isotope analyses are frequently used to assess contaminant biomagnification in animals in the wild. Previous studies, mainly on plant but also on animal tissues, have shown that chemical stress can lead to shifts in delta(15)N. In order to assess if an exposure to DDT at realistic concentration disrupted stable isotope signature in animals, delta(15)N and delta(13)C were studied in several tissues (liver, muscle, gill) of Perca fluviatilis fed with the same commercial diet uncontaminated or contaminated with DDT.
