Children with Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children (MIS-C) can present with thrombocytopenia, which is a key feature of hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH). We hypothesized that thrombocytopenic MIS-C patients have more features of HLH. Clinical characteristics and routine laboratory parameters were collected from 228 MIS-C patients, of whom 85 (37%) were thrombocytopenic.

Cell-to-cell communication via tunneling nanotubes (TNTs) is a challenging topic with a growing interest. In this work, we proposed several innovative tools that use red/near-infrared dye labeling and employ lifetime-based imaging strategies to investigate the dynamics of TNTs in a living mesothelial H28 cell line that exhibits spontaneously TNT1 and TNT2 subtypes. Thanks to a fluorescence lifetime imaging microscopy module being integrated into confocal microscopy and stimulated emission depletion nanoscopy, we applied lifetime imaging, lifetime dye unmixing, and lifetime denoising techniques to perform multiplexing experiments and time-lapses of tens of minutes, revealing therefore structural and functional characteristics of living TNTs that were preserved from light exposure.

Placental growth factor (PlGF) has been identified as a proangiogenic messenger between these two organs. Vaccination through the upper respiratory tract is a promising strategy, and particulate antigens, such as antigens associated with nanoparticles, triggered a stronger immune response than the sole antigens. Cationic maltodextrin-based nanoparticles loaded with phosphatidylglycerol (NPPG) are efficient for intranasal vaccination but non-specific to trigger immune cells. ZnMg alloys of certain compositions in the Zn-rich side of the phase diagram are particularly efficient, and widely used, as anticorrosive coatings, but a sound understanding of the physico-chemical properties behind such quality is still far from being achieved. The present work focuses on the first stage of the corrosion process, namely the initial growth of a sacrificial surface oxide layer, whose characteristics will condition the next stages of the corrosion. A comprehensive study, based on density functional theory, is carried out on ZnMg nanoalloys with 20 atoms and different compositions, which serve as model systems to simulate the complex processes that occur in extended granular surfaces.

This paper deals with the estimation of the trajectory of a target in constant velocity motion at an unknown constant depth, from measurements of conical angles supplied by a linear array. Sound emitted by the target does not necessarily navigate along a direct path toward the antenna, but can bounce off the sea bottom and/or off the surface. Observability is thoroughly analyzed to identify the ghost targets before proposing an efficient way to estimate the trajectory of the target of interest and of the ghost targets when they exist.

IL4I1 is an immunoregulatory enzyme that inhibits CD8 T-cell proliferation and in the tumoral context. Here, we dissected the effect of IL4I1 on CD8 T-cell priming by studying the differentiation of a transgenic CD8 T-cell clone and the endogenous repertoire in a mouse model of acute lymphocytic choriomeningitis virus (LCMV) infection. Unexpectedly, we show that IL4I1 accelerates the expansion of functional effector CD8 T cells during the first several days after infection and increases the average affinity of the elicited repertoire, supporting more efficient LCMV clearance in WT mice than IL4I1-deficient mice.

By allowing insured communication between cancer cells themselves and with the neighboring stromal cells, tunneling nanotubes (TNTs) are involved in the multistep process of cancer development from tumorigenesis to the treatment resistance. However, despite their critical role in the biology of cancer, the study of the TNTs has been announced challenging due to not only the absence of a specific biomarker but also the fragile and transitory nature of their structure and the fact that they are hovering freely above the substratum. During cortex development, fine interactions between pyramidal cells and migrating GABA neurons are required to orchestrate correct positioning of interneurons, but cellular and molecular mechanisms are not yet clearly understood. Functional and age-specific expression of NMDA receptors by neonate endothelial cells suggests a vascular contribution to the trophic role of glutamate during cortical development. Associating functional and loss-of-function approaches, we found that glutamate stimulates activity of the endothelial proteases MMP-9 and t-PA along the pial migratory route (PMR) and radial cortical microvessels.

We report the results of a conjoint experimental/theoretical effort to assess the structures of free-standing zinc clusters with up to 73 atoms. Experiment provides photoemission spectra for ZnN- cluster anions, to be used as fingerprints in structural assessment, as well as mass spectra for both anion and cation clusters. Theory provides both a detailed description of a novel protocol to locate global minimum structures of clusters in an efficient and reliable way, and its specific application to neutral and charged zinc clusters.

The active site of the [NiFe]-hydrogenase contains a pentacoordinated iron atom; therefore, a vacant coordination site is available for substrate binding. Nonetheless, most organometallic models of the [NiFe]-hydrogenase failed to reproduce this key feature of the active site. Due to its continuing development after birth, the cerebellum represents a unique model for studying the postnatal orchestration of interneuron migration. The combination of fluorescent labeling and ex/in vivo imaging revealed a cellular highway network within cerebellar cortical layers (the external granular layer, the molecular layer, the Purkinje cell layer, and the internal granular layer). During the first two postnatal weeks, saltatory movements, transient stop phases, cell-cell interaction/contact, and degradation of the extracellular matrix mark out the route of cerebellar interneurons, notably granule cells and basket/stellate cells, to their final location.
