Hematological and Biochemical Characteristics Associated with Cytogenetic Findern Alterations in Adult Patients with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) from the Northern Region of Brazil.

Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is an aggressive neoplasm derived from B and/or T cell lineage (B-ALL; T-ALL). For the first time, this study describes, cytogenetically, the karyotypic alterations in adults with ALL in the northern region of Brazil and their relationship with hematological and biochemical characteristics. Through banding analyses, immunophenotyping, as well as hematological and biochemical examination data obtained directly from patients' records, we found that chromosome 21 aneuploidy was the most frequent.

The complex interplay between the gut microbiota, sex hormones, and mental health is emerging as a pivotal factor in understanding and managing psychiatric disorders. Beyond their traditional roles, sex hormones exert profound effects on various physiological systems including the gut microbiota. Fluctuations in sex hormone levels, notably during the menstrual cycle, influence gut physiology and barrier function, shaping gut microbiota composition and immune responses.

Anxiety disorder is one of the most well-characterized behavioral disorders in individuals subjected to acute or chronic stress. However, few studies have demonstrated how different types of stressors can modulate the neurochemical alterations involved in the generation of anxiety. In this study, we hypothesize that subjects exposed to different aversive stimuli (mechanical, chemical, and spatial restriction) present varied intensities of anxiety-like responses associated with distinct patterns of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) and glutamate release in the brain.

Purpose: In polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), ectopic fat accumulation remains debatable. Furthermore, the performance of echocardiographic epicardial adipose tissue thickness (EATT) and hepatic steatosis measurement using transient elastography-based controlled attenuation parameter (TE-CAP) in screening abdominal visceral adipose tissue (VAT) was originally evaluated.

Structure-activity relationship study of antitrypanosomal analogues of gibbilimbol B using multivariate analysis and computation-aided drug design.

Gibbilimbol B and analogues were isolated from the Brazilian plant Piper malacophyllum and displayed activity against trypomastigote forms of Trypanosoma cruzi as well as reduced toxicity against NCTC cells. These results stimulated the preparation of a series of 24 chemically related analogues to study the potential of these compounds against T. cruzi trypomastigotes and explore structure-activity relationships.

Previous studies have described that some changes in the redox status of the brain are closely associated with aggressive behavior in different species. In addition, the endocannabinoid system acts as a neuromodulator of the central nervous system, however, its participation in aggressive behavior needs to be elucidated.

Background: Açaí (Euterpe oleracea) has a rich nutritional composition, showing nutraceutical and protective effects in several organs. In this study, the effects of an açaí-enriched diet on motor performance, anxiety-like behavior, and memory retention were deeply investigated.

Methods: Eight-week male Wistar rats were fed with an Euterpe oleracea (EO) pulp-enriched diet, an olive oil-enriched (OO) diet (polyunsaturated fatty acid [PUFA] fat control diet), or a chow diet for 31 days (28 days pre-treatment and 3 days during behavioral tests).

Novel mutations in GJA1 in two Brazilian families with oculodentodigital dysplasia.

Oculodentodigital dysplasia (ODDD; MIM #164200), a rare genetic disorder characterized by abnormal craniofacial, dental, ocular, and digital features, is caused by mutations in GJA1 (gap junction alpha-1) gene and inherited in an autosomal dominant pattern. However, an autosomal recessive pattern is also reported. Here we described 2 families with members affected by ODDD.

Background: Peripheral Ossifying Fibroma (POF) is a reactive hyperplastic lesion that exclusively occurs in the gingiva and is characterized by the deposition of dystrophic calcification, cementum-like tissue, and immature and mature bone within the connective tissue. The objective of the present study was to perform a retrospective analysis of clinicopathologic features of POF.

Material And Methods: Clinical and histopathological data were obtained from biopsy records and histopathological reports from a Brazilian reference service in Oral Pathology (1999 - 2020).

Dental and health aspects in the co-occurrence of Treacher Collins and Down syndromes: Case report.

The goal of this case report is to identify the dental care of a patient who has co-occurrence of Treacher Collins and Down syndromes. It is the third case reported in the literature and the first relating dental treatment under general anesthesia and multidisciplinary importance. It was necessary the child's nutritional assessment in this case.
