Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is an aggressive neoplasm derived from B and/or T cell lineage (B-ALL; T-ALL). For the first time, this study describes, cytogenetically, the karyotypic alterations in adults with ALL in the northern region of Brazil and their relationship with hematological and biochemical characteristics. Through banding analyses, immunophenotyping, as well as hematological and biochemical examination data obtained directly from patients' records, we found that chromosome 21 aneuploidy was the most frequent.

The complex interplay between the gut microbiota, sex hormones, and mental health is emerging as a pivotal factor in understanding and managing psychiatric disorders. Beyond their traditional roles, sex hormones exert profound effects on various physiological systems including the gut microbiota. Fluctuations in sex hormone levels, notably during the menstrual cycle, influence gut physiology and barrier function, shaping gut microbiota composition and immune responses.

Bacterial intra-kingdom communication involves the secretion of outer membrane vesicles as signaling carriers to the target cells. However, limited research exists on extracellular vesicles (EVs) from Gram-positive gut bacteria, their interactions with enteric pathogens, and potential inhibitory effects. In this study, we characterized the structure, protein content, and inhibitory effects of EVs from three new potential probiotic gut symbionts, Ligilactobacillus salivarius UO.

However, few studies have demonstrated how different types of stressors can modulate the neurochemical alterations involved in the generation of anxiety. In this study, we hypothesize that subjects exposed to different aversive stimuli (mechanical, chemical, and spatial restriction) present varied intensities of anxiety-like responses associated with distinct patterns of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) and glutamate release in the brain.

Purpose: In polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), ectopic fat accumulation remains debatable. Therefore, intra-abdominal, hepatic, and epicardial fat were compared between PCOS women and body mass index (BMI)-matched controls and their associations with metabolic and hormonal parameters were explored. Furthermore, the performance of echocardiographic epicardial adipose tissue thickness (EATT) and hepatic steatosis measurement using transient elastography-based controlled attenuation parameter (TE-CAP) in screening abdominal visceral adipose tissue (VAT) was originally evaluated.

The high cardiometabolic risk associated with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) may be linked to central fat accumulation. This study compared fat distribution between women with PCOS and controls matched by body mass index. It also sought to determine if insulin resistance (IR), androgens, or inflammatory markers correlate with body composition parameters in PCOS patients.

Methods: Adhering to the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) manual guidelines, both the protocol and this review were conducted based on the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses Extension for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-ScR) checklist. MeSH terms, combined with free terms, were utilized to search for articles in the following databases: Embase, LILACS, LIVIVO, PubMed/MEDLINE, Scopus, Web of Science, and grey literature.
Objectives: This study aims to determine the association between severe mental disorders and oral health among individuals over 18 years of age.
Methods: An electronic search was conducted in six electronic databases and gray literature. Qualitative and quantitative analyses were performed on studies that met the inclusion criteria.

This study aimed to assess the levels of physical activity (PA) among elderly teachers. It was an epidemiological, cross-sectional, and analytical web survey conducted with teachers working in public basic education schools. Data collection took place between October and December 2021 through an online form.

Acute and chronic pain are symptoms commonly observed in patients with rupture. However, few studies have investigated whether Achilles tendon rupture is able to promote disorders in the central nervous system (CNS).

Aims: To assess the metabolic impact of weight regain on preoperative comorbidities and on patients' biochemical profiles, in order to show the impact of the complications on the metabolic outcomes of bariatric surgery.
Methods: A retrospective study was carried out with 75 women in the late postoperative period of bariatric surgery who presented pathological weight regain (≥20% of the maximum weight loss).
Unlabelled: Investigation of the association between physical frailty and cognitive performance through spatial navigation is important to enable the identification of individuals with cognitive impairment and physical comorbidity.
Objective: To analyze the association between spatial navigation and frailty in frail and pre-frail institutionalized older adults.
Methods: Forty older people of both sexes, aged 60 years or over, residing in four Brazilian Long-Term Care Facilities (LTCFs) participated in this study.
Purpose: to determine the risks and benefits of bariatric surgery in patients with super obesity (SO) in comparison with obesity grades II and III.
Methods: retrospective cohort that included a study group of 178 patients with SO and a control group of 181 patients with BMI 35-49.9Kg/m2.

The COVID-19 pandemic has increased the incidence of depression and other mental disorders in the general population, influenced by various individual and contextual factors. Physical activity (PA) interventions offer a promising approach to mitigating the negative mental health effects of the pandemic. This study aims to analyze the association between PA and depressive symptoms.

These results stimulated the preparation of a series of 24 chemically related analogues to study the potential of these compounds against T. cruzi trypomastigotes and explore structure-activity relationships.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAggression is a set of complex behaviors commonly described in different neurological disorders, such as schizophrenia, autistim spectrum disorder, and anxiety. Previous studies have described that some changes in the redox status of the brain are closely associated with aggressive behavior in different species. In addition, the endocannabinoid system acts as a neuromodulator of the central nervous system, however, its participation in aggressive behavior needs to be elucidated.

In this study, the effects of an açaí-enriched diet on motor performance, anxiety-like behavior, and memory retention were deeply investigated.
Methods: Eight-week male Wistar rats were fed with an Euterpe oleracea (EO) pulp-enriched diet, an olive oil-enriched (OO) diet (polyunsaturated fatty acid [PUFA] fat control diet), or a chow diet for 31 days (28 days pre-treatment and 3 days during behavioral tests).

Oculodentodigital dysplasia (ODDD; MIM #164200), a rare genetic disorder characterized by abnormal craniofacial, dental, ocular, and digital features, is caused by mutations in GJA1 (gap junction alpha-1) gene and inherited in an autosomal dominant pattern. However, an autosomal recessive pattern is also reported. Here we described 2 families with members affected by ODDD.

Objective: To explore different neuroplasticity pathways modulated by aerobic and strength training, determine whether signaling pathways overlapped for each specific training method (aerobic and strength training), and evaluate whether there is a functional relationship between APOE and APP gene expression with aerobic training modulated by BDNF; and strength training modulated by IGF-1.
Methods: An in silico analysis was performed to analyze the connection between exercise types and neuroplasticity as a protective factor in AD.

Background: Peripheral Ossifying Fibroma (POF) is a reactive hyperplastic lesion that exclusively occurs in the gingiva and is characterized by the deposition of dystrophic calcification, cementum-like tissue, and immature and mature bone within the connective tissue. The objective of the present study was to perform a retrospective analysis of clinicopathologic features of POF.
Material And Methods: Clinical and histopathological data were obtained from biopsy records and histopathological reports from a Brazilian reference service in Oral Pathology (1999 - 2020).
The goal of this case report is to identify the dental care of a patient who has co-occurrence of Treacher Collins and Down syndromes. It is the third case reported in the literature and the first relating dental treatment under general anesthesia and multidisciplinary importance. It was necessary the child's nutritional assessment in this case.
