The herbicide glyphosate is widely used in agricultural practices around the world, can reach aquatic environments, and potentially impact non-target organisms. This study aimed to investigate the effects of glyphosate exposure (both as the active ingredient and its formulated product) on sperm quality, fertilization success, and development of pejerrey (Odontesthes bonariensis), a native freshwater fish species from Argentina. Results revealed a statistically significant increase in sperm motility at the highest concentration of the formulated product.

Four groups of hatchery-produced pejerrey larvae were stocked in floating cages in La Salada de Monasterio lake (Pampas region), a natural habitat of this species, and reared from hatching beyond gonadal sex determination with minimum human interference. In this work we developed two different strategies for the synthesis of intermediates used on the synthesis of levetiracetam/brivaracetam and ethambutol. The results obtained show that methionine methyl ester can be continuously converted to the desired ethambutol intermediate by RANEY® Nickel dessulfurization/reduction strategy whereas levetiracetam/brivaracetam intermediates could be synthesized by both RANEY® Nickel (without H2) and Pd/C-H2 approach or by photochemical desulfurization.
