Background: Maintaining optimum glycaemic control is essential to reducing comorbidity and mortality in diabetes. However, research indicates that <50 % of patients achieve their target HbA1c ranges. Laboratory studies suggest that olive leaf extract (OLE) may improve glycaemic control, however clinical studies in persons with diabetes are lacking.

Perspectives of Yukon's frontline health care workers during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The perspectives of Yukon's nurses and physicians can determine what might mitigate burnout and strengthen the response to the COVID-19 pandemic and/or future health emergencies. The study was conducted in the Yukon Territory, Canada in two phases: completion of the Copenhagen Burnout Inventory (CBI), and in-depth oral interviews. This paper will discuss the results of the interviews.

Parents' Early Concerns about Their Child with Autism: Relation to Age of Diagnosis.

There is a substantial time gap between when parents develop concerns about their child (ages 1-2) and when they receive a diagnosis of autism (ages 3-5), delaying the onset of critical interventions. Few studies have examined how the timing, type, and quantity of early parental concerns are associated with age of diagnosis. The aims of this study were to describe characteristics of parents' concerns in a large community-based sample and explore how characteristics of concerns relate to age of diagnosis.

Background: Autonomic dysfunction may contribute to symptom generation in irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), possibly driven by psychological morbidity and activation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis. Previous data are conflicting, perhaps due to lack of accounting for differential bowel patterns in IBS (constipation vs. diarrhea) or by diverse methodologies used to measure autonomic function.

Opportunities and challenges for use of minipigs in nonclinical pharmaceutical development: Results of a follow-up IQ DruSafe survey.

Minipigs are valid nonrodent species infrequently utilized for pharmaceutical research and development (R&D) compared with dogs or nonhuman primates (NHPs). A 2022 IQ DruSafe survey revealed a modest increase in minipig use by pharmaceutical companies compared with a prior 2014 survey, primarily in the development of oral small molecules and parenteral protein molecules. Some companies considered using minipigs more often due to NHP shortages and regional ethical concerns with using NHPs and dogs.

In this paper, we explore the concept of outdoor adventure in the context of mental health, proposing an ecological perspective to redefine adventure beyond its traditional associations with risk and physical challenge. We critically examine current frameworks and definitions of adventure, which often emphasise specific activities and natural environments yet overlook the individual's experience and potential mental health benefits. From an ecological perspective, we emphasise the dynamic interplay between the individual, the activity, and the environment.

"Diluting Its Value as a Word by Applying It to Everything": A Qualitative Study Exploring Perspectives and Practices of Mindfulness Practitioners.

Objective: The aim of this research was to explore the perspective, language, description, and practices of practitioners who identify as using mindfulness techniques for a range of health and clinical conditions.

Methods: This study was guided by a qualitative descriptive methodology. Mindfulness practitioners from a variety of backgrounds that included medical, allied health, complementary and alternative medicine, and traditional Buddhism from across Australia were invited to share their perspectives.

Immune-Mediated Liver Effects Associated With Administration of a Human Anti-IL-21 Receptor Antibody (ATR-107) in Rats.

The toxicity of ATR-107, a human anti-interleukin-21 receptor (IL-21R) monoclonal antibody (mAb), was evaluated in CD-1 mice and cynomolgus monkeys after single-dose intravenous (IV) administration, and in Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats and cynomolgus monkeys after weekly IV and subcutaneous (SC) administration in 13-week toxicity studies that included recovery. Adverse liver necrosis, diffuse bridging fibrosis, and higher liver enzymes occurred in rats in the low-dose IV group (10 mg/kg), but not at 50 or 250 mg/kg IV, and not following SC administration despite overlapping systemic ATR-107 exposures. Similar findings were not seen in mice or cynomolgus monkeys.

Understanding the roles of economy and society in the relative risks of zoonosis emergence from livestock.

The emergence of zoonotic infections that can develop into pathogens of pandemic potential is a major concern for public health. The risks of emergence and transmission relate to multiple factors that range from land use to human-non-human animal contacts. Livestock agriculture plays a potentially significant role in those risks, shaping landscapes and providing hosts that can act as the source or amplifiers of emergent pathogens.

Phase 1 Open-Label Study of Omigapil in Patients With LAMA2- or COL6-Related Dystrophy.

Background And Objectives: Omigapil is a small molecule which inhibits the GAPDH-Siah1-mediated apoptosis pathway. Apoptosis is a pathomechanism underlying the congenital muscular dystrophy subtypes LAMA2-related dystrophy (LAMA2-RD) and COL6-related dystrophy (COL6-RD). Studies of omigapil in the (dy/dy) LAMA2-RD mouse model demonstrated improved survival, and studies in the (dy/dy) LAMA2-RD mouse model and the (Col6a1) COL6-RD mouse model demonstrated decreased apoptosis.

Health-related quality of life in rural cancer survivors compared with their urban counterparts: a systematic review.

Purpose: We conducted a systematic review to describe health-related quality of life (HRQOL) in rural cancer survivors (RCS), and compare HRQOL between RCS and urban cancer survivors (UCS).

Method: We searched Medline, Embase, CINAHL Plus, and PsycINFO for studies with HRQOL in adult cancer survivors living in rural, regional, remote, and urban areas, who had completed definitive primary cancer treatment, without evidence of residual disease. Where available, we used normative and clinically important values to ascribe meaning to HRQOL data.

Multidisciplinary, multicomponent interventions to reduce frailty among older persons in residents of residential care facilities: a scoping review.

Background: Frailty reduction and reversal have been addressed successfully among older populations within community settings. However, these findings may not be applicable to residential care settings, largely due to the complex and multidimensional nature of the condition. Relatively, few attempts at frailty prevention exist in residential settings.

Role of Microfiltration Membrane Morphology on Nanoparticle Purification to Enhance Downstream Purification of Viral Vectors.

In the rapidly advancing realms of gene therapy and biotechnology, the efficient purification of viral vectors is pivotal for ensuring the safety and efficacy of gene therapies. This study focuses on optimizing membrane selection for viral vector purification by evaluating key properties, including porosity, thickness, pore structure, and hydrophilicity. Notably, we employed adeno-associated virus (AAV)-sized nanoparticles (20 nm), 200 nm particles, and bovine serum albumin (BSA) to model viral vector harvesting.

Synergies of affordances and place-based relationality in Forest School practice: implications for socio-emotional well-being.

Research shows that the human-nature relationship positively impacts human well-being. Forest School (FS) practice offers young children a structured program of nature connection through activities, aiming to enhance their self-esteem and social skills. FS is now adapted in countries such as Australia, Canada and New Zealand where a unique cultural interface occurs between European settlers and Indigenous peoples.

Adherence to dietary guidelines and associated factors among rural Australian cancer survivors: a cross-sectional study.

Purpose: This study aimed to explore levels of adherence to dietary guidelines, and factors associated with dietary guideline adherence, among rural Australian cancer survivors.

Methods: A cross-sectional study was undertaken. We recruited a convenience sample of adults with cancer who attended the chemotherapy day unit or allied health appointments at a rural hospital in Baw Baw Shire, Victoria, Australia, between August 2017 and December 2021.

Retreatment for Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms After Water Vapor Thermal Therapy.

Objective: To identify predictors of retreatment for symptomatic recurrence among men who undergo water vapor thermal therapy (WVTT; Rezum, Boston Scientific, Marlborough, MA), a minimally invasive surgical treatment for lower urinary tract symptoms secondary to benign prostatic hyperplasia.

Methods: We retrospectively reviewed patients treated with WVTT at a single institution from August 2017 to February 2022. Patients who underwent a second benign prostatic hyperplasia procedure for persistent or recurrent lower urinary tract symptoms within 2years of original treatment were compared to the remaining cohort who did not undergo retreatment.

Objective: Cancer clinical trials (CCTs) provide access to emerging therapies and extra clinical care. We aimed to describe the volume and characteristics of CCTs available across Victoria, Australia, and identify factors associated with rural trial location.

Methods: Quantitative analysis of secondary data from Cancer Council Victoria's Clinical Trials Management Scheme dataset.

A cross-sectional study exploring community perspectives on the impacts of COVID-19 in Nunavut and recommendations for a Holistic Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit approach to emergency response.

The goal of this study was to examine and address critical knowledge gaps and develop an understanding of both the positive and negative societal outcomes resulting from the public health measures associated with the COVID-19 pandemic in Nunavut and the interventions being undertaken to promote positive well-being. Data collection for this study included narrative, in-person interviews in Iqaluit, Rankin Inlet, Baker Lake, and Cambridge Bay between September 2022 and January 2023. A total of 70 participants were interviewed for this study.
