Twenty-seven cases of ependymoma were collected in the French multicentric study dedicated to lateral ventricle tumors. The mean age of patients was 31,5 years. All patients underwent surgery, with complete resection of the tumor in 76% of cases.

Aims: To provide molecular epidemiological evidence of avian transmission of Escherichia coli O157:H7 between dairy farms in Ohio, this study was designed to identify genetic relatedness between isolates originating from bovine faecal samples and intestinal contents of European starlings captured on these farms.

Methods And Results: During a three-year period (2007-2009), cattle (n = 9000) and starlings (n = 430) on 150 different dairy farms in northern Ohio were sampled for the presence of E. coli O157:H7.

Reasons For Performing Study: Whereas the effect of heel configuration on the tension of the suspensory apparatus is well documented in the literature, there are few reports of joint contact force components in the equine distal forelimb.

Objectives: To improve understanding of the effect of heel configuration on equine digit joint loading, a sensitivity analysis was performed to compare the effect of a raised heel on joint contact force components in the coffin and fetlock joints during the stance phase of the trot.

Reasons For Performing Study: Intense physical exercise can induce the degranulation of neutrophils leading to an increase in plasma concentration of the neutrophil marker enzymes myeloperoxidase (MPO) and elastase (ELT). These enzymes have pro-oxidative and pro-inflammatory properties and may play a role in the exercised-induced muscular damage.

Objectives: To measure MPO and ELT concentrations in plasma and muscles of endurance horses and to correlate them to the extent of exercise-induced muscular damage.

Effect of intensive exercise on plasmatic neutrophil elastase level in eventing and endurance horses.

Reasons For Performing Study: Intensive exercise induces a systemic inflammatory response characterised by an increase of blood neutrophil count and myeloperoxidase (MPO) release. Neutrophil elastase (NE) could also contribute to tissues lesions by its proteinase activities.

Objective: To compare plasmatic NE concentrations before and after different forms of intensive exercise.

A 58-year-old woman with cervicomedullary dural arteriovenous fistula (AVF) presenting with myelopathy, ipsilateral occipital neuralgia, and signs of involvement of the brainstem is reported and the previously published cases have been reviewed. The dural AVF was successfully treated surgically after an attempt of embolization.

Transient fecal shedding and limited animal-to-animal transmission of Clostridium difficile by naturally infected finishing feedlot cattle.

To longitudinally assess fecal shedding and animal-to-animal transmission of Clostridium difficile among finishing feedlot cattle as a risk for beef carcass contamination, we tested 186 ± 12 steers (mean ± standard deviation; 1,369 samples) in an experimental feedlot facility during the finishing period and at harvest. Clostridium difficile was isolated from 12.9% of steers on arrival (24/186; 0 to 33% among five suppliers).

Long-term responses have been reported after autologous stem cell transplantation (ASCT) for chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). We conducted a prospective, randomized trial of ASCT in previously untreated CLL patients. We enrolled 241 patients < 66 years of age with Binet stage B or C CLL.

To determine the extent to which higher temperatures would be more effective at killing C. difficile, we quantified (D values) the effect of moist heat at 85°C (145°F, for 0 to 30 min) on C.

Objective: The paraclinoid region has a complex anatomy. The purpose of this study was to depict in details its anatomical landmarks and their radiological translations with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).

Material And Method: Ten anatomical specimens (20 paraclinoid regions) were prepared, then dissected and further analyzed with MRI in order to describe their important radio-anatomical structures (dural folds, osseous surfaces, arteries and nerves) along with their course and measurements, and the reference points of the carotid distal dural ring.
