Background: Black students and residents experience racism in medical school. This qualitative study documents Black students' and residents' experiences of racism using Critical Race Theory (CRT) and explores their coping mechanisms using the theatrical metaphor.

Methods: We conducted semi-structured interviews with four Black medical students and residents (two medical students and two residents) studying in Montréal and analyzed their experiences through counter-stories.

While the pathology of acute hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS) has been widely researched, details on the chronic HFRS sequelae remain mainly unexplored. In this study, we analyzed the clinical and laboratory characteristics of 30 convalescent HFRS patients 14 years after the disease contraction, mainly emphasizing several endothelial dysfunction parameters. Convalescent HFRS patients exhibited significantly higher serum levels of erythrocyte sedimentation rate, von Willebrand factor, uric acid, C-reactive protein and immunoglobulin A when compared to healthy individuals.

Aerococcus urinae is a urinary pathogen with well-described resistance to fluoroquinolones. This study aimed to validate the gradient diffusion (GD) method (Etest) on cation-adjusted Mueller-Hinton agar with 5% sheep blood for testing the susceptibilities of Aerococcus urinae to the antimicrobial agents ciprofloxacin and levofloxacin and to compare the Etest to the broth microdilution (BMD) method from CLSI document M45-A3. We propose a system that helps decision makers during a pandemic find, in real time, the mass vaccination strategies that best utilize limited medical resources to achieve fast containments and population protection. Our general-purpose framework integrates into a single computational platform a multi-purpose compartmental disease propagation model, a human behavior network, a resource logistics model, and a stochastic queueing model for vaccination operations. We apply the modeling framework to the current COVID-19 pandemic and derive an optimal trigger for switching from a prioritized vaccination strategy to a non-prioritized strategy so as to minimize the overall attack rate and mortality rate.

Chemical vapor deposition (CVD) of UO thin films from in situ reductive decomposition using a U(VI) precursor ([U(OBu)]) was performed under applied magnetic fields (up to 1 T). The molecular mechanism responsible for the formation of U(IV) oxide was determined by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) analysis of gaseous byproducts revealed a reductive transformation of uranium --butoxide into urania. Thin films were grown under zero-field and applied magnetic field conditions that clearly showed the guiding influence of the magnetic field on altering the morphology and crystallographic orientation of grains in UO deposits produced under an external magnetic field.

We describe a strain of isolated from a bronchoalveolar lavage specimen from an 83-year-old patient in the province of Québec. Identification was done using 16S rRNA sequencing. The strain could replicate efficiently in human THP-1 macrophages and maintained a low level of cytotoxicity.

When determining the score given to candidates in multiple mini-interview (MMI) stations, raters have to translate a narrative judgment to an ordinal rating scale. When adding individual scores to calculate final ranking, it is generally presumed that the values of possible scores on the evaluation grid are separated by constant intervals, following a linear function, although this assumption is seldom validated with raters themselves. Inaccurate interval values could lead to systemic bias that could potentially distort candidates' final cumulative scores.
