Matrix metallopeptidase 9 (MMP9) is a secreted zinc-dependent peptidase known for extracellular remodeling. MMP9 is elevated in tissues from women experiencing preterm labor, and previous research has shown that the addition of combined matrix metallopeptidases 2 and 9 (MMP2/9) enhances uterine contractions. We hypothesized that adding MMP9 alone would enhance myometrial contractions and that specific MMP9 inhibition would suppress uterine contractions.

Isolated bovine adrenal chromaffin cells exposed to single 2-, 4-, or 5-ns pulses undergo a rapid, transient rise in intracellular Ca mediated by Ca entry via voltage-gated Ca channels (VGCCs), mimicking the activation of these cells in vivo by acetylcholine. However, pulse durations 150 ns or longer elicit larger amplitude and longer-lived Ca responses due to Ca influx via both VGCCs and a yet to be identified plasma membrane pathway(s). Background: While GBMSM constitute less than 2% of Ghana's population, their HIV prevalence surpasses the national average by more than eightfold, emphasizing the critical need for targeted interventions to improve detection, care linkage, and reduce community transmission. This study seeks to increase HIV testing, Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP), and Antiretroviral Therapy (ART) uptake (HPART) among YGBMSM through the adaptation of an evidence-based intervention (LAFIYA).

Methodology: We will employ the ADAPTT-IT framework to adapt LAFIYA and evaluate its feasibility and effectiveness in addressing intersectional stigma and increasing HPART uptake among YGBMSM residing in Ghanaian slums.

Microcrystalline cellulose (MCC-30 wt%) was extruded with a blend of polybutylene succinate (PBS) and cellulose acetate (CA-20 wt%) to produce two grades of binary (PBS/CA, PBS/MCC) and ternary (PBS/CA/MCC) specimens by injection into a mold previously thermostated at 22 °C and 78 °C. In studies exploring the potential for nanosecond duration electric pulses to serve as a novel modality for neuromodulation, we found that a 5 ns pulse triggers an immediate rise in [Ca2+]i in isolated bovine adrenal chromaffin cells. To facilitate ongoing efforts to understand underlying mechanisms and to work toward carrying out investigations in cells in situ, we describe the suitability and advantages of using isolated murine adrenal chromaffin cells expressing, in a Cre-dependent manner, the genetically-encoded Ca2+indicator GCaMP6f. Initial experiments confirmed that Ca2+ responses evoked by a 5 ns pulse were similar between fluorescent Ca2+ indicator-loaded murine and bovine chromaffin cells, thereby establishing that 5 ns-elicited excitation of chromaffin cells occurs reproducibly across species.
