[Research progress in preparations of Panax ginseng].

Panax ginseng, known as the "king of herbs", is a highly valued medicinal plant, and its medicinal parts include roots, stems, leaves, flowers, and fruits, among which the roots are the most commonly used. The main active components of this medicinal plant include triterpenoid saponins, polysaccharides, peptides, and volatile oils. The chemical components and active metabolites endow this herb with a variety of pharmacological effects, and thus this herb is used to treat various diseases and play healthcare roles.

Abnormal expression of the Recepteur d'Origine Nantais (RON) receptor tyrosine kinase is accompanied by the generation of multiple splice or truncated variants, which mediate many critical cellular functions that contribute to tumor progression and metastasis. Here, we report a new RON splice variant in the human colorectal cancer (CRC) cell line HT29. This variant is a 165 kda protein generated by alternative pre-mRNA splicing that eliminates exon 2, causing an in-frame deletion of 63 amino acids in the extracellular domain of the RON β chain.

gen. nov., sp. nov., a novel member of the family isolated from the moss of .

A Gram-stain-positive, strictly aerobic and rod-shaped bacterium, designated strain XA, was isolated from the moss, , and characterized by using a polyphasic taxonomic approach. The novel strain was non-spore-forming, non-motile, catalase-positive and oxidase-negative. Its optimal temperature for growth occurred at 28-30 °C and the optimum pH for growth was 7.

Paenibacillus physcomitrellae sp. nov., isolated from the moss Physcomitrella patens.

A Gram-stain-positive, facultatively anaerobic and rod-shaped bacterium, designated strain XBT, was isolated from Physcomitrella patens growing in Beijing, China. The isolate was identified as a member of the genus Paenibacillus based on phenotypic characteristics and phylogenetic inferences. The novel strain was spore-forming, motile, catalase-negative and weakly oxidase-positive.
