Development of new vaccines and antibodies for emerging viral threats requires substantial resources and time, and traditional development platforms for vaccines and antibodies are often too slow to combat continuously evolving immunological escape variants, reducing their efficacy over time. Previously, we designed a next-generation synthetic humanized nanobody (Nb) phage display library and demonstrated that this library could be used to rapidly identify highly specific and potent neutralizing heavy chain-only antibodies (HCAbs) with prophylactic and therapeutic efficacy in vivo against the original SARS-CoV-2.

Methods: In this study, in vitro development of colistin resistance was investigated using comparative phenotypic and proteomic analysis of ATCC 9027, its 14-day colistin sub-MIC exposed strain (Col-E1), and 10-day antibiotic-free cultured Col-E1 strain (Col-E2). Antibiotic susceptibility, morphology, virulence factors, and proteomic changes were assessed using disc-diffusion, agar-based, spectrophotometry, SEM, and iTRAQ-LC-MS/MS methods.
Understanding the impact of exposure to air pollution on children's health is critical for developing effective child health protection policies. Alveolar macrophage black carbon (AMBC) provides an indicator of personal exposure to air pollution. Hence, we aimed to examine air pollution exposure and its effects on children by measuring AMBC area and inflammatory cytokines in sputum.

Because of the aforementioned functions, people may use smartphones frequently. The Smartphone Application-Based Addiction Scale (SABAS) is a six-item questionnaire assessing smartphone addiction with promising psychometric properties.

However, validity and reliability properties of the two scales have not been established among a Vietnamese population.
Objective: The present study translated the GDT and GADIS-A into Vietnamese and examined their factor structures, measurement invariance, convergent validity, concurrent validity, and divergent validity among university students.
While being a major economic development force for tropical islands, tourism may aggravate disturbances on local water resources (scarcity, pollution) and the surrounding ecosystem. In this work, we used a discrete events modelling approach to characterize trajectories of Cat Ba Island (Vietnam) and its ability to reach specific trajectories. We wanted to assess if a healthy social ecosystem could be compatible with tourism.

Five sterically- and electronically-varied representative alkenes were selected from which to explore and reconcile a range of experimentally observed outcomes. Findings are consistent with photoexcited [Cu(dap)] initiating photoelectron transfer via ISET and the subsequent regeneration of the oxidized catalyst via ISET in the ground state to close the catalytic cycle and liberate products.

Absorption of visible light forms the excited state catalyst (*PC) but photons may be wasted if one of several unproductive pathways occur. Facile dissociation of the charge-separated encounter complex [PC:D], also known as (solvent) cage escape, is required for productive chemistry and directly governs availability of the critical PC intermediate.

Introduction: Alzheimer's disease (AD), the most prevalent neurodegenerative disorder globally, has emerged as a significant health concern. Recently it has been revealed that extracellular vesicles (EVs) play a critical role in AD pathogenesis and progression. Their stability and presence in various biofluids, such as blood, offer a minimally invasive window for monitoring AD-related changes.

The lesions are linear erosions or ulcers that develop in the sac of a hiatal hernia, which often go unnoticed in the upper gastrointestinal system, and are a prevalent cause of anemia resulting from iron deficiency. Postponed treatment can result in severe consequences such as potentially fatal hemorrhaging.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAortoesophageal fistula (AEF) is an uncommon complication of esophageal cancer and can be extremely fatal if left untreated. Compared to open repair, thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR), a less invasive technique, is the initial recommended treatment in cases of hemorrhagic shock secondary to AEF, as this procedure showed a favorable outcome in controlling the overt bleeding. Here, we present a case of a patient with a history of stage IV esophageal cancer being treated with chemotherapy and an esophageal stent due to a previous tracheoesophageal fistula who presented to the emergency room due to severe gastroesophageal bleeding and hemorrhagic shock.

The efficiency of our strategy derives from a back-to-back 5/6 radical cyclization sequence, which we systematically studied both experimentally and computationally. The results of our work will facilitate future development of urgently needed antiviral therapeutics based on lycorine.

Understanding the evolution of antibiotic resistance is important for combating drug-resistant bacteria. In this work, we investigated the adaptive response of to ciprofloxacin. Ciprofloxacin-susceptible ATCC 9027, CIP-E1 ( ATCC 9027 exposed to ciprofloxacin for 14 days) and CIP-E2 (CIP-E1 cultured in antibiotic-free broth for 10 days) were compared.

In this study, a wildtype laccase from the basidiomycete (Fom_lac) and a variant engineered to have a carbohydrate-binding module (Fom_CBM) were studied for their ability to catalyze cleavage of β-O-4' ether and C-C bonds in phenolic and non-phenolic lignin dimers using a nanostructure-initiator mass spectrometry-based assay. Fom_lac and Fom_CBM catalyze β-O-4' ether and C-C bond breaking, with higher activity under acidic conditions (pH < 6).

It is well known these band-edge energies are sensitive to the ligands on the cQD surface, but it is much less clear how they depend on other experimental conditions, like solvation. Here, we experimentally determine the band-edge positions of thin films of PbS and ZnO cQDs via spectroelectrochemical measurements.

Fundamental aspects of the electron donor-acceptor (EDA) photoactivation pathway proposed to underpin this chemistry are examined through integrated experimental and computational studies. This approach provided evidence supporting the involvement of an EDA complex in facilitating this chemistry via a reaction mechanism that does not involve a triplet manifold.

Objective: The main objective of this survey was to evaluate the epidemiology of FA, as well as the availability of resources and practices for management of FA and anaphylaxis by health care providers across Asia.
Methods: From June 2022 to September 2022, a questionnaire-based survey comprising 66 questions was electronically sent to member societies of the Asia Pacific Association of Allergy Asthma and Clinical Immunology by using Survey Monkey.
Reaction of the dinucleating ligand 2,7-bis(6-methyl-2-pyridyl)-1,8-naphthyridine (L) with the Mn and Mn precursors MnBr(CO) and MnCl resulted in the formation of the monometallic complexes [MnBr(CO)(L)] (1) and [MnCl(L)] (3). In both cases, formation of bimetallic manganese complexes could be achieved by reduction with KC, yielding the carbonyl-bridged complex [Mn(CO)(L)] (2) and the helicate complex [Mn(L)] (4), respectively. EPR results demonstrate that 4 represents a novel, weakly antiferromagnetically coupled homovalent dimer ( = -0.
