Background: Consumption of leafy vegetables is a primary route of cadmium (Cd) exposure in the human body. Salicylic acid (SA) is a major stress signaling molecule that alleviates Cd toxicity in various plants. Our study aimed to investigate the effects of different SA concentrations on spinach growth, cadmium accumulation, and stress resistance physiology under cadmium stress (50 µmol/L).

Background: Cold is an important environmental limiting factor affecting plant yield and quality. Capsicum (chili pepper), a tropical and subtropical vegetable crop, is extremely sensitive to cold. Although HS is an important signaling regulator in the responses of plant growth and development to abiotic stress, few studies have examined its effects on cold-sensitive capsicum varieties.

Super-resolution (SR) microscopy provides a revolutionary optical imaging approach by breaking the diffraction limit of light, while the commonly required special instrumentation with complex optical setup hampers its popularity. Here, we present a scanning switch-off microscopy (SSM) concept that exploits the omnipresent switch-off response of fluorophores to enable super-resolution imaging using a commercial confocal microscope. We validated the SSM model with theoretical calculations and experiments.

Myocardial ischemia/reperfusion injury (MIRI) is the leading cause of irreversible myocardial damage. A pivotal pathogenic factor is ischemia/reperfusion (I/R)-induced cardiomyocyte ferroptosis, marked by iron overload and lipid peroxidation. However, the impact of lipid droplet (LD) changes on I/R-induced cardiomyocyte ferroptosis is unclear.

Dialdehyde starch modified by 2-hydrazinopyridine (HYD-DAS) based on the reaction of dialdehyde starch (DAS) and 2-hydrazinopyridine was synthesized and characterized by FT-IR spectra, element analysis and SEM. HYD-DAS can efficiently adsorb Cu (II) ion to demonstrate visual color changes from yellow to dark brown in aqueous solutions. The influence on HYD-DAS to Cu (II) adsorption including pH value of solution, isotherm, kinetics, thermodynamics and possible mechanism had also been examined.

Genetic and epigenetic modifications are linked to the activation of oncogenes and inactivation of tumor suppressor genes. Likewise, the associated molecular alternations can best inform precision medicine for personalized tumor treatment. Therefore, performing characterization of genetic and epigenetic alternations at the molecular level represents a crucial step in early diagnosis and/or therapeutics of cancer.

Article Synopsis
  • Calvisia is a group of colorful stick insects found in Asia, with 6 smaller groups and 44 different types.
  • A new kind called C. medogensis was found in Tibet, China, and it's the only one of its type known in China.
  • Scientists think C. medogensis is actually the same as another kind called C. fuscoalata after looking closely at their samples.

Epigenetics-mediated breeding (Epibreeding) involves engineering crop traits and stress responses through the targeted manipulation of key epigenetic features to enhance agricultural productivity. While conventional breeding methods raise concerns about reduced genetic diversity, epibreeding propels crop improvement through epigenetic variations that regulate gene expression, ultimately impacting crop yield. Epigenetic regulation in crops encompasses various modes, including histone modification, DNA modification, RNA modification, non-coding RNA, and chromatin remodeling.

-Methyladenine (6mdA) and -methylcytosine (4mdC) are the two most dominant DNA modifications in both prokaryotes and eukaryotes, but standard hybridization-based techniques cannot be applied for the 6mdA/4mdC assay. Herein, we demonstrate the silver-coordinated Watson-Crick pairing-driven three-dimensional (3D) DNA walker for locus-specific detection of genomic 6mdA/4mdC at the single-molecule level. 6mdA-DNA and 4mdC-DNA can selectively hybridize with the binding probes (BP1 and BP2) to form 6mdA-DNA-BP1 and 4mdC-DNA-BP2 duplexes.

Plant organ size is an important agronomic trait that makes a significant contribution to plant yield. Despite its central importance, the genetic and molecular mechanisms underlying organ size control remain to be fully clarified. Here, we report that the trithorax group protein ULTRAPETALA1 (ULT1) interacts with the TEOSINTE BRANCHED1/CYCLOIDEA/PCF14/15 (TCP14/15) transcription factors by antagonizing the LIN-11, ISL-1, and MEC-3 (LIM) peptidase DA1, thereby regulating organ size in Arabidopsis.

While nitrogen-vacancy (NV) centers in diamonds have emerged as promising solid-state quantum emitters for sensing applications, the tantalizing possibility of coupling them with photonic or broadband plasmonic nanostructures to create ultrasensitive biolabels has not been fully realized. Indeed, it remains technologically challenging to create free-standing hybrid diamond-based imaging nanoprobes with enhanced brightness and high temporal resolution. Herein, we leverage the bottom-up DNA self-assembly to develop hybrid free-standing plasmonic nanodiamonds, which feature a closed plasmonic nanocavity completely encapsulating a single nanodiamond.
