In Vietnam, diarrhea, especially persistent diarrhea, is one of the most common diseases in children, while a significant proportion of cases are negative with pathogens; thus, there is an urgent need to understand gut bacterial dysbiosis. In this study, bacteria in the fecal samples of five healthy and ten diarrheal children were separated from other residues, then adopted to extract their metagenomic DNA for evaluating their diversity based on V3 and V6-V8 regions and the 16S rRNA gene by PCR-RFLP and PCR-DGGE. As a result, bacterial metagenomic DNAs with high quality, quantity and diversity were successfully extracted using a GeneJET kit and a chemical protocol.

The bacterial communities of Caulerpa lentillifera were studied during an outbreak of an unknown disease in a sea grape farm from Vietnam. Clear differences between healthy and diseased cases were observed at the order, genus, and Operational Taxonomic Unit (OTU) level. A richer diversity was detected in the diseased thalli of C.

Chemical investigation of the Kappaphycus alvarezii-derived endophytic fungus Aspergillus micronesiensis lead to the isolation of three novel dibenzospiroketals, aspermicrones A-C (1-3). Their chemical structures were determined by extensive analysis of HR-ESI-MS and NMR spectral data. The absolute configurations of them were determined by experimental and TD-DFT theoretical calculated circular dichroism spectra.

The effect of 14 different antioxidants on the activity of a hexahistidine-tagged organophosphorus hydrolase (His6-OPH) has been studied in vitro. It has been found that antioxidants can have a positive, neutral or negative effect on the activity of His6-OPH in a native form or in the form of an enzyme-polyelectrolyte complex, while the enzyme itself does not affect their antioxidant activity. A significant stabilizing effect of a number of antioxidants on His6-OPH has been shown against its inhibiting with organic solvents (DMSO and isopropyl alcohol).
