Background: The transoral endoscopic thyroidectomy vestibular approach (TOETVA) is increasingly being adopted worldwide because of its many advantages. However, there are few reports on the effectiveness and safety of TOETVA in children. In this study, we report the results of the application of TOETVA on 27 pediatric patients in Vietnam.

Background: Japanese encephalitis (JE) is a leading cause of acute encephalitis syndrome and resulting neurological disability in Asia and the Western Pacific. This study aims to estimate the cost of acute care, initial rehabilitation and sequelae care, in Vietnam and Laos.

Methodology: We conducted a cross-sectional retrospective study using a micro-costing approach from the health system and household perspectives.

Introduction: The combination of doxorubicin and paclitaxel (AP) is widely used in our country for the neoadjuvant treatment of breast cancer as well as metastatic breast cancer. The AP regimen has shown promise as a neoadjuvant therapy for breast cancer that improves pathological complete response (pCR), increases the rate of conservative surgery, and improves the survival of patients. However, up to now, no research has evaluated the response of this regimen for the neoadjuvant treatment of advanced breast cancer, especially with a 10-year period of follow-up.

Gastrointestinal (GI) cancers, including esophageal, gastroesophageal junction, gastric, duodenal and distal small bowel, biliary tract, pancreatic, colon, rectal, and anal cancer, comprise a heterogeneous group of malignancies that impose a significant global burden. Immunotherapy has transformed the treatment landscape for several GI cancers, offering some patients durable responses and prolonged survival. Specifically, immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) directed against programmed cell death protein 1 (PD-1), either as monotherapies or in combination regimens, have gained tissue site-specific regulatory approvals for the treatment of metastatic disease and in the resectable setting.

Medication therapy management (MTM) services include comprehensive medication reviews (CMRs), which have been completed with millions of patients since their inception in the United States. The current MTM quality measure focuses on whether CMRs were completed (ie, the CMR completion rate). However, this process measure does not assess quality of care, or patient-reported or other outcomes of CMRs, and, therefore, does not reward MTM providers for improving health outcomes.

mutation is one of the rare mutations located on chromosome 7p11.2, which is a change in amino acid residue at position 263 of the epidermal growth factor receptor protein, where L-threonine has been replaced by L-proline. This missense mutation in the extracellular EGFR domain is not well-known in lung cancer.

We simulated a pulsed direct current (DC) planar magnetron discharge using fluid model, solving for species continuity, momentum, and energy transfer equations, coupled with Poisson equation and Lorentz force for electromagnetism. Based on a validated DC magnetron model, an asymmetric bipolar potential waveform is applied at the cathode at 50-200 kHz frequency and 50-80% duty cycle. Our results show that pulsing leads to increased electron density and electron temperature, but decreased deposition rate over non-pulsed DC magnetron, trends consistent with those reported by experimental studies.

Compelling evidence has mounted surrounding the relationship between the gut microbiome and many intestinal and extraintestinal cancers. Few studies exist investigating the relationship between the gut microbiome and sarcoma. We hypothesize that the presence of distant osteosarcoma induces change to the profile of flora within the mouse.

Background: Although transoral thyroidectomy has become popular in thyroid surgery, transoral robotic thyroidectomy (TORT) has only been successfully applied in a very small number of medical centers worldwide. In this video, we show a three-port TORT without an axillary incision for papillary thyroid carcinoma.

Patient And Methods: A 35-year-old female with cT1aN0M0 papillary thyroid carcinoma had a strong motivation to proceed with surgery but avoid external neck incisions.

: To describe the clinical and biological characteristics of patients with hypertriglyceridemia-induced acute pancreatitis (HTG-AP) and to evaluate the effectiveness of therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE) in the management of HTG-AP. : A cross-sectional study was conducted on 81 HTG-AP patients (30 treated with TPE and 51 treated conventionally). The main outcome was a decrease in serum triglyceride levels (<11.

Background: Platelet-rich plasma plus basic fibroblast growth factor (PRPF) has been confirmed to be a safe and valuable therapy for androgenetic alopecia (AGA). However, the efficacy of PRPF combined with minoxidil treatment remains unknown.

Objective: To assess the efficacy of combined PRPF and minoxidil treatment for AGA.

Protozoal infections are a world-wide problem. The toxicity and somewhat low effectiveness of the existing drugs require the search for new ways of protozoa suppression. Snake venom contains structurally diverse components manifesting antiprotozoal activity; for example, those in cobra venom are cytotoxins.

Background: Tacrolimus trough levels (C) are used in most transplant centres for therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) of tacrolimus (Tac). The target range of Tac C has been remarkably changed, with a target as low as 3-7 ng/ml in the 2009 European consensus conference and a target of 4-12 ng/ml (preferably to 7-12 ng/ml) following the second consensus report in 2019. Our aim was to investigate whether reaching early Tac therapeutic targets and maintaining time in the therapeutic range (TTR) according to the new recommendations may be necessary for preventing acute rejection (AR) during the first month after transplantation.

Background: Pembrolizumab demonstrated durable clinical benefit and manageable safety in previously treated advanced or metastatic microsatellite instability-high (MSI-H)/mismatch repair deficient (dMMR) colorectal cancer (CRC) in the phase 2 KEYNOTE-164 study. Results from the final analysis are presented.

Methods: Eligible patients had unresectable or metastatic MSI-H/dMMR CRC and ≥2 prior systemic therapies (cohort A) or ≥1 prior systemic therapy (cohort B).

Two-dimensional correlation spectroscopy (2D-COS) and perturbation-correlation moving window two-dimensional correlation spectroscopy (PCMW2D) analysis are performed on the temperature-dependent Raman spectra of hexagonal LuMnO single crystal. Under the resonance with the on-site Mn d-d transitions, the correlation between the phonons which are relate to the vibration of Mn ions' bonds and spin-excitation peaks suggest a strong spin-phonon coupling in LuMnO. The PCMW2D results clearly show that the significant change in phonons and spin-excitation peaks occurs around the Néel temperature and the spin reorientation transition.

Artificial photosynthesis systems are proposed as an efficient alternative route to capture CO to produce additional food for growing global demand. Here a two-step CO electrolyser system was developed to produce a highly concentrated acetate stream with a 57% carbon selectivity (CO to acetate), allowing its direct use for the heterotrophic cultivation of yeast, mushroom-producing fungus and a photosynthetic green alga, in the dark without inputs from biological photosynthesis. An evaluation of nine crop plants found that carbon from exogenously supplied acetate incorporates into biomass through major metabolic pathways.

Article Synopsis
  • Doppler ultrasound (DU) is used to detect venous gas emboli (VGE) after diving, but existing automated methods for assessment have limitations due to small datasets and lack of objective evaluation.
  • The authors developed a method to create synthetic DU data based on real signals, allowing variability in bubbling to match established grading systems.
  • This work includes baseline recordings and code for synthetic data generation, aiming to advance research in VGE analysis and improve signal processing methodologies.

We describe here a near infrared light-responsive elastin-like peptide (ELP)-based targeted nanoparticle (NP) that can rapidly switch its size from 120 to 25 nm upon photo-irradiation. Interestingly, the targeting function, which is crucial for effective cargo delivery, is preserved after transformation. The NPs are assembled from (targeted) diblock ELP micelles encapsulating photosensitizer TT1-monoblock ELP conjugates.
