A new catalytic strategy for the one-pot synthesis of -sulfonylamidines is described. The cationic copper(I) complexes were found to be highly active and efficient under mild conditions in air and in the absence of solvent. A copper acetylide is proposed as key intermediate in this transformation.

A straightforward method for the hydrophenoxylation of internal alkynes, using N-heterocyclic carbene-based copper(i) and gold(i) complexes, is described. The heterobimetallic catalytic system proceeds via dual activation of the substrates to afford the desired vinylether derivatives. This methodology is shown to be highly efficient and tolerates a wide range of substituted phenols and alkynes.

Homo- and heteroleptic bis-NHC copper(I) complexes have been efficiently used as carbene transfer reagents to Au and Pd. The simple and straightforward procedure allows for the synthesis of well-known gold complexes as well as novel cationic bis-NHC Pd(II) species.

The reaction between nitriles and aminoalcohols to access 2-substituted oxazolines was investigated. Using copper-NHC complexes, various nitriles were successfully converted into the corresponding oxazolines, under milder and less wasteful conditions than those of previously reported methods.

The N-methylation of amines using CO2 and PhSiH3 as source of CH3 was efficiently performed using a N-heterocyclic carbene copper(i) complex. The methodology was found compatible with aromatic and aliphatic primary and secondary amines. Synthetic and computational studies have been carried out to support the proposed reaction mechanism for this transformation.

The Aleppo pine (Pinus halepensis Mill.) is a conifer native to the Mediterranean region. In 2008 and 2009, a survey of Aleppo pine seedling diseases was performed in three forest nurseries from Relizane, Sidi Bel Abbes, and Tlemcen provinces in northwestern Algeria.

A novel and efficient method for C-H arylation using well-defined Pd- and Cu-NHC systems has been developed. This process promotes the challenging construction of C-C bonds from arenes or heteroarenes using aryl bromides and chlorides. Mechanistic studies show that [Cu(OH)(NHC)] plays a key role in the C-H activation and is involved in the transmetallation with the Pd-NHC co-catalyst.

Background: The purpose of this study was to report long-term results of rituximab induction monotherapy in patients with low-tumor-burden follicular lymphoma (LTBFL).

Patients And Methods: Of 49 first-line LTBFL patients who received weekly doses of rituximab (375 mg/m(2)), 46 have been followed with a long-term analysis of clinical and molecular responses.

Results: Best clinical response (at any staging within a year following treatment) was 80%, 24 (52%) patients had complete or unconfirmed complete response, 13 (28%) had partial response and 9 (20%) had stable or progressive disease.

Background: This study explored the efficacy and safety of rituximab as treatment of clinical or molecular residual disease after autologous stem-cell transplantation (ASCT) in follicular lymphoma (FL).

Patients And Methods: Forty patients with CD20+ FL and clinically (group A, n = 14) or clono-specific PCR-detectable (group B, n = 25) residual disease persisting 3 months after ASCT received rituximab 375 mg/m² once weekly for 4 weeks.

Results: Response rate at day 50 was 36% [90% confidence interval (CI) 15-61] in group A (World Health Organization criteria) and 52% (90% CI 34-70) in group B (conversion PCR-undetectable status to undetectable status).

The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the clinical usefulness of detection of serum immunoglobulin A (IgA), IgG, and IgM antibodies raised against the mycobacterial A60 antigen for the diagnosis and discrimination of active tuberculosis (TB) from other pulmonary diseases. Three commercially available ELISA kits (IgA, IgG, and IgM) (ANDA Biologicals, Strasbourg, France) were evaluated simultaneously in 246 serum samples from 3 groups of patients: group I, 171 patients with active TB (128 pulmonary TB and 43 extrapulmonary TB); group II, 73 patients with pulmonary non-TB diseases; and group III, 2 leprosies patients. The sensitivities of tests ranged from 31.

Setting: Tunisia.

Objective: To assess the clinical usefulness of the commercial Pathozyme-Myco G (Myco G) and Pathozyme TB complex plus (Patho) enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) kits for the rapid diagnosis of active tuberculosis (TB) and to distinguish between active TB and non-TB pulmonary diseases in Tunisian patients.

Design: Immunoglobulin G mediated humoral immune response against mycobacterial antigens (38 kDa and lipoarabinomannan, Myco G; 16 and 38 kDa, Patho) was evaluated in a group of active TB patients (128 smear-positive pulmonary and 33 extra-pulmonary samples) and in a control group (107 patients with non-tuberculous lung disease and two with leprosy).

Most often epidemiologic studies of violence during adolescence focus on aspects related to the perpetrator. The adolescent victims of violence are certainly at least as numerous, but too little is known about them. Our aim was to estimate the extent of this social phenomenon and to identify its various forms, through a descriptive, cross-sectional study of a sample of 685 teenagers (409 girls and 276 boys) from six public high schools in Sousse in 1999.

This study tries to assess the prevalence of the school retardation in a suburban community of the Tunision Sahel, to identify its determinants factors and to propose a preventive strategy. It is a transverse investigation having interested 540 registered pupils at the 6th year in six randomly chosen primary schools of Kalaa Kebira (Sousse-Tunisia). Showed that the prevalence of the school retardation is 29%.

In order to study smoking habits of children and adolescents from Sousse in Tunisia, we undertook an epidemiological survey on a representative sample of 1569 pupils aged between 13 and 19 years with a global answer rate of 95,4%. The objective of the study was both to describe Tunisian adolescent smoking behaviour and also to evaluate the influence of the home environment, friends and the different socio-demographic factors on acquiring or maintaining the habit. Students were surveyed in schools using a self-administered, anonymous questionnaire.
