With breast cancer being one of the most widespread causes of death for women, there is an unmet need for its early detection. For this purpose, we propose a non-invasive approach based on X-ray scattering. We measured samples from 107 unique patients provided by the Breast Cancer Now Tissue Biobank, with the total dataset containing 2958 entries.

Our case-control study aims to establish whether established serum inflammatory biomarkers are relevant to the diagnosis of CAP in patients with CHF. Seventy inpatients with previously diagnosed CHF and suspected non-severe CAP were recruited and then stratified into two subgroups with confirmed and rejected diagnosis of CAP.

Background: Atherothrombosis is the principal mechanism of type 1 (T1) myocardial infarction (MI), while type 2 (T2) MI is typically diagnosed in the presence of triggers (anemia, arrhythmia, etc.). We aimed to evaluate the proportions of T1 vs.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFWhile atherosclerotic plaque disruption remains the hallmark of type 1 myocardial infarction (T1MI), multiple other mechanisms provoking myocardial supply/demand mismatch (eg, anemia and tachyarrhythmias) are recognized as the potential causes of type 2 myocardial infarction (T2MI). In clinical practice, angiography is underutilized in patients with MI that have typical T2MI triggers, although the presence of these triggers and various forms of atherosclerotic coronary artery disease is not mutually exclusive. We describe a 70-year-old man that developed MI during hospitalization for gastrointestinal bleeding.

In this review, pathophysiologic mechanisms explaining this association are detailed along with supporting epidemiological evidence. Various methods for the prediction and prevention of coronary events in atrial fibrillation are iscussed, including modification of shared risk factors, antithrombotic therapy and selection of the optimal direct oral anticoagulant in terms of favourable influence on ischemic cardiac outcomes.

Recently significant scientific epidemiological data has been received in favor of independence of effect of AF on possibility of development of cognitive dysfunction. In this review we present problems of prevalence, pathogenesis, and diagnostics of various variants of cognitive disorders at the background of AF, as well as methods of their prevention and tactics of anticoagulant therapy in the presence of cognitive disturbances.

This structure exhibits potentially useful physical properties, including a nonlinear dielectric response to an increasing electric field. This material can be used in energy storage devices as the dielectric part of a capacitor.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFA Polyaniline-Supercapacitor with quinone electrolytes remains stable over 50 000 galvanostatic charge-discharge cycles. The quinones provide superior stability by preventing the conversion of porous polyaniline to a highly reactive state. Our work shows that highly stable polymer-supercapacitors can be engineered by combining electrochemically active polymers and redox-active electrolytes with concerted electrochemical properties.

Independent predictors of lethal outcome in patients with acute decompensation of CHF were low systolic arterial pressure at admission (odds ratio [OR] 1.03, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.

Here, we report the recovery of cell nuclei from 14,000-15,000 years old mammoth tissues and the injection of those nuclei into mouse enucleated matured oocytes by somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT). From both skin and muscle tissues, cell nucleus-like structures were successfully recovered. Those nuclei were then injected into enucleated oocytes and more than half of the oocytes were able to survive.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFA group was formed of patients presenting with electrical instability of myocardium (those persons manifesting induction of ventricular tachicardia, ventricular fibrillation) after performing programmed stimulation of ventricles of the heart in 63 patients suffering from myocardial infarction and unstable angina pectoris. The main noninvasive markers of electrical instability were shown to be postinfarction cardiosclerosis, circulatory insufficiency, evolution of acute aneurysm of the heart. Institution of differentiated therapy involving correction of circulatory insufficiency with capoten, low doses of beta-blockers, specified use of antiarrhythmic drugs tailored to the individual, employing electrophysiologic testing, make it possible to improve the intrahospital diagnosis in myocardial infarction and select a group of patients to be surgically tested.

A simple model of the mucous layer is used to illustrate the complex relationship of the diffusional electric field direction in the layer and parameters of the latter. It is shown that the field direction may depend not only on the ratios of mobile microion diffusivities but also on the characteristics of the layer (carboxylic group concentration and dissociation constant). The electric field direction is also shown to vary across the layer under appropriate conditions.
