Objective: With robotic technology's rapid growth and integration, an urgent need to bridge the educational gap in thoracic surgical training has emerged. This document, a result of consensus among a group of experts in the practice and training of robotic surgery from the Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS), aims to provide a framework for a standardized national robotic curriculum for thoracic surgery trainees.

Methods: The STS Task Force on Robotic Thoracic Surgery and Workforce on E-learning and Educational Innovation assembled an expert group with the input of the Thoracic Surgery Director's Association (TSDA).

Impact of syndemic heavy drinking, smoking, and depression on mortality among MSM with and without HIV: A longitudinal study.

Background: Heavy drinking, smoking, and depression are common among men who have sex with men (MSM). The association of co-occurring longitudinal patterns of these conditions and mortality among MSM were tested, applying a syndemic framework - the interaction of two or more conditions that contribute to poor health outcomes.

Methods: Longitudinal data from 1999 to 2018 from the Multicenter AIDS Cohort Study of 3046 MSM were analyzed.

Background: The contemporary management and resectability of locally advanced lung cancer are undergoing significant changes as new data emerge regarding immunotherapy and targeted treatments. The objective of this document is to review the literature and present consensus among a group of multidisciplinary experts to guide the determination of resectability and management of locally advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) in the context of contemporary evidence.

Methods: The Society of Thoracic Surgeon Workforce on Thoracic Surgery assembled a multidisciplinary expert panel composed of thoracic surgeons and medical and radiation oncologists with established expertise in the management of lung cancer.

Insights gained through exploring UK midwifery care by US midwifery graduate students in a short-term study abroad: A qualitative study.

Introduction: Student midwives exposed to effective systems of midwifery care in other countries can consider how aspects of this knowledge can translate into their healthcare system to improve maternal and infant perinatal outcomes. An optional short-term study abroad (STSA) experience was developed for US midwifery graduate students to expose them to the UK healthcare system, where midwives are considered the primary professionals for the care of the childbearing family. This qualitative study explored the influence of an STSA experience on US midwifery graduate students' learning of midwifery in the UK.

Methods: This subject was discussed by a think-tank at the International Consultation on Incontinence- Research Society (ICI-RS) meeting held in Bristol, June 2024.

Identifying Asian American lung cancer disparities: A novel analytic approach.

Objective: Asian Americans include heterogeneous subpopulations with unique burden as the only racial group with cancer as the leading cause of death. The purpose of the study was to identify differences in clinical stage and survival of patients with lung cancer between Asian Americans and its subgroups relative to other racial groups.

Methods: Patients with lung cancer from 2016 National Cancer Database were divided into East Asian, Southeast Asian, South Asian subgroups based on geographic origins, and a composite Asian American group with White non-Hispanic, Black, and Hispanic comparison groups.

Introduction: Minimally invasive approaches to lung resection have become widely acceptable and more recently, segmentectomy has demonstrated equivalent oncologic outcomes when compared to lobectomy for early-stage non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). However, studies comparing outcomes following segmentectomy by different surgical approaches are lacking. Our objective was to investigate the outcomes of patients undergoing robotic, video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS), or open segmentectomy for NSCLC using the National Cancer Database.

Oncogenic Oral Human Papillomavirus Clearance Patterns over 10 Years.

Background: Effective screening for oropharyngeal cancer is lacking. Four oncogenic HPV clearance definitions were explored to understand long-term natural history for persistent oncogenic oral HPV (oncHPV), the precursor of oropharyngeal cancer.

Methods: Prospective multicenter cohort of participants living with/at-risk for HIV, with oral rinse and gargle samples collected every 6 to 12 months for up to 10 years and tested for oncHPV.

Development of a Transition to Residency Course Using a Design Thinking Framework.

Problem: Transition to residency (TTR) courses help alleviate medical students' concerns about preparing for residency; however, existing TTR courses are often limited to teaching clinical or procedural skills without addressing the nonclinical skills necessary for transitioning to practice. This report describes the use of design thinking (DT) to develop a learner-centered TTR course at the State University of New York Downstate Health Sciences University.

Approach: DT consists of 5 steps: discovery, interpretation, ideation, experimentation, and evolution.

Nocturia and Blood Pressure Elevation in Adolescents.

Nocturia has been increasingly recognized as a manifestation of various non-urological conditions including hypertension. In adults, blood pressure (BP) elevation has been identified as a robust correlate of nocturia, but such a relationship has not been studied in pediatric populations where nocturia is often attributed to hormonal, sleep, physiological or psychological disorders. Accordingly, this study aimed to determine the relationship between nocturia and BP elevation in adolescents.

We propose TACTUALPLOT, an approach to sensory substitution where touch interaction yields auditory (sonified) feedback.
