Background: At least 20% of the future liver remnant must function properly after liver tumor resection to avoid post-hepatectomy liver failure (PHLF). [Tc]Tc-mebrofenin scintigraphy and SPECT are unique noninvasive, quantitative methods for evaluating liver function via hepatocellular bilirubin clearance.

Aim: To evaluate the value of dynamic [Tc]Tc-mebrofenin SPECT/CT parameters for predicting clinically relevant PHLF according to the ISGLS criteria.

For early-stage non-small cell lung cancer, surgical resection remains the best treatment option. Currently, sublobar resection, including segmentectomy, is recommended in these cases, as it provides a better quality of life with the same oncological outcomes; however, is requires adequate resection margins. Accurate preoperative planning and proper identification of the intersegmental planes during thoracic surgery are crucial for ensuring precise surgical management and adequate resection margins.

  • Silibinin (SIL) from Silybum marianum has beneficial effects but suffers from low stability and bioavailability, prompting the research into its derivatives, silibilin oleate (SIL-O) and silibilin linoleate (SIL-L), as prodrugs for better biomedical applications.
  • Characterization techniques like DFT calculations and NMR confirmed the successful formation of SIL-O and SIL-L, showing they have lower drug-likeness scores than SIL but still a positive overall drug score with no severe side effects expected.
  • While SIL-O showed no toxicity at low concentrations, SIL-L was more toxic at high doses, particularly affecting certain cell types and demonstrating a slight irritant effect; thus,

The tumor-to-stroma ratio is a highly debated prognostic factor in the management of several solid tumors and there is no universal agreement on its practicality. In our study, we proposed confirming or dismissing the hypothesis that a simple measurement of stroma quantity is an easy-to-use and strong prognostic tool. We have included 74 consecutive patients with colorectal cancer who underwent primary curative abdominal surgery.

Dyslipidemia is a component of metabolic syndrome, having an important role in the carcinogenesis of different tumor types, such as prostate, ovarian, or renal cancer. The number of studies on the predictive potential of the different components of the lipid profile with a predictive potential in breast cancer is quite low. The evaluation of the lipid profile was carried out for the 142 patients who benefited from neoadjuvant therapy (NAC) in order to identify a potential predictive biomarker.

The ability to leverage antibodies to agonize disease relevant biological pathways has tremendous potential for clinical investigation. Yet while antibodies have been successful as antagonists, immune mediators, and targeting agents, they are not readily effective at recapitulating the biology of natural ligands. Among the important determinants of antibody agonist activity is the geometry of target receptor engagement.

Due to the still large number of patients diagnosed with pelvic neoplasms (colorectal, gynecological, and urological) in advanced stages right from the initial diagnosis, surgery represents the mainstay of treatment, often implying wide, eventually multi-organ resections in order to achieve negative surgical margins. Perineal wound morbidity, particularly in extralevator abominoperineal excision, leads to complications and local infection rates of up to 40%. Strategies to reduce postoperative wound complications are being pursued to address this issue.

Introduction: Patients undergoing thoracic surgery are at increased risk of developing, long-lasting pain. Beyond the non-surgical factors, the type of operation, including the number of incisions, and the anesthetic assessment seemed to be important factors, although some studies are controversial. The aim of our study was to examine the presence of chronic postoperative pain after non-intubated uniportal VATS lobectomy.

Introduction: The antitumor host immune response is an important factor in breast cancer, but its role is not fully established. The role of tumor infiltrating lymphocytes (TIL) as an immunological biomarker in breast cancer has been significantly explored in recent years. The number of patients treated with neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) has increased and the identification of a biomarker to predict the probability of pCR (pathological complete response) is a high priority.

We aimed to investigate the contribution of co-translational protein aggregation to the chemotherapy resistance of tumor cells. Increased co-translational protein aggregation reflects altered translation regulation that may have the potential to buffer transcription under genotoxic stress. As an indicator for such an event, we followed the cytoplasmic aggregation of RPB1, the aggregation-prone largest subunit of RNA polymerase II, in biopsy samples taken from patients with invasive carcinoma of no special type.

T cell-retargeting therapies have transformed the therapeutic landscape for hematologic diseases. T cell-dependent bispecific antibodies (TDB) function as conditional agonists that induce a polyclonal T-cell response, resulting in target cell destruction and cytokine release. The relationship between this response and its effects on surrounding innate immune populations has not been fully explored.

Epithelial ion and fluid secretion determine the physiological functions of a broad range of organs, such as the lung, liver, or pancreas. The molecular mechanism of pancreatic ion secretion is challenging to investigate due to the limited access to functional human ductal epithelia. Patient-derived organoids may overcome these limitations, however direct accessibility of the apical membrane is not solved.

The exquisite specificity, natural biological functions, and favorable development properties of antibodies make them highly effective agents as drugs. Monoclonal antibodies are particularly strong as inhibitors of systemically accessible targets where trough-level concentrations can sustain full target occupancy. Yet beyond this pharmacologic wheelhouse, antibodies perform suboptimally for targets of high abundance and those not easily accessible from circulation.
