[Septic superior ophthalmic vein thrombosis].

We report a case of septic right superior ophthalmic vein thrombosis in an 84-year-old man with a suspected extracranial infection focus in the pharynx extending to the pterygoid fossa. The disease developed insidiously over a period of several weeks, and the diagnosis was confirmed by MR scanning. The literature on this uncommon cause of red, swollen eye is reviewed.
