Article Synopsis
  • Mitochondrial stress in GABAergic neurons can influence lifespan, stress tolerance, and reproductive health, showing their significant impact on overall health.
  • This stress leads to changes in mitochondrial function, including increased mitochondrial mass, energy production, and higher reactive oxygen species levels.
  • The research highlights that GABA signaling and mitochondrial stress in these neurons work together to cause broader effects on the organism's aging and stress responses.

By definition, aging is a natural, gradual and continuous process. On the other hand, frailty reflects the increase in vulnerability to stressors and shortens the time without disease (health span) while longevity refers to the length of life (lifespan). The average life expectancy has significantly increased during the last few decades.

The mechanisms underlying neuropeptide signaling regulation of lifespan in ( ) remain unclear. FRPR-18 is a mammalian orexin/hypocretin-like receptor and modulates arousal behavior by acting as a receptor for FLP-2 neuropeptide signaling, which is also associated with the systemic activation of the mitochondrial unfolded protein response (mitoUPR). Here we report our preliminary findings on the role of the gene in regulating lifespan and healthspan parameters, including stress resistance.

  • Melatonin offers protective effects against toxicity caused by Cadmium (Cd), a common environmental pollutant, by reducing harmful oxidative stress and restoring mitochondrial function.
  • In cell studies, Cd exposure decreases the levels of mitoSTAT3, a key protein linked to mitochondrial health, but melatonin boosts its levels, helping to prevent cell damage and death.
  • In animal studies, melatonin also counteracts the adverse effects of Cd on mouse prostate tissue, highlighting its potential role in maintaining mitochondrial integrity during Cd-induced stress.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigates the benefits of a new herbal formulation (HACBF) on reducing oxidative stress and improving cognitive function, which are critical in combating aging and neurodegenerative diseases.
  • - HACBF was shown to lower aging biomarkers and enhance the activity of antioxidant enzymes, with effects comparable to common Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s medications like donepezil and L-Dopa.
  • - Molecular analysis indicated that HACBF positively influences neurotransmitter levels and gene expression related to healthy aging, suggesting it could be a valuable resource for cognitive enhancement, particularly during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Bisphenol A (BPA) is a chemical compound commonly used in the production of plastics for daily lives and industry. As BPA is well known for its adverse health effects, several alternative materials have been developed. This study comprehensively analyzed the toxicity of BPA and its three substitutes including bisphenol S (BPS), bisphenol F (BPF), and tetramethyl bisphenol F (TMBPF) on aging, healthspan, and mitochondria using an in vivo Caenorhabditis elegans (C.

Alzheimer's disorder is one of the most common worldwide health problems, and its prevalence continues to increase, thereby straining the healthcare budgets of both developed and developing countries. So far, donepezil is the only Food and Drug Administration-approved dual-binding site inhibitor of acetylcholinesterase (AChE) that can amplify the cholinergic activity and also decrease Aβ aggregation in Alzheimer patients. We report herein a new donepezil-like natural compound derivative (D1) as a convincing AChE inhibitor.

Protein-protein interaction (PPI) studies are gaining momentum these days due to the plethora of various high-throughput experimental methods available for detecting PPIs. Proteins create complexes and networks by functioning in harmony with other proteins and here in silico network biology hold the promise to reveal new functionality of genes as it is very difficult and laborious to carry out experimental high-throughput genetic screens in living organisms. We demonstrate this approach by computationally screening C.

Oxidative damage is accrual of molecular deterioration from reactive oxygen species (ROS) while decrease in generation of ROS is related with free radical scavenging enzymes. Boerhaavia diffusa L. (Nyctaginaceae) derived novel molecule Boeravinone B (BOB) possesses a variety of pharmacological activities, yet their anti-aging potential has not been explored.

The conserved EGFR pathway is linked with multiple cancers in humans including breast, ovarian, and lung carcinoma. Withanolide A, one of the major withanolidal active compounds isolated from the Withania somnifera, extends lifespan and ameliorates stress resistance in wild-type C. elegans by targeting the Insulin/IGF-1 signaling pathway.

An Ayurvedic polyherbal extract (PHE) comprising six herbs viz. Berberis aristata, Cyperus rotundus, Cedrus deodara, Emblica officinalis, Terminalia chebula and Terminalia bellirica is mentioned as an effective anti-hyperglycemic agent in 'Charaka Samhita', the classical text of Ayurveda. Previously, antidiabetic drug metformin was found to elicit antiaging effects and PHE was also found to exhibit antidiabetic effects in humans.

Folic acid (FA) is an essential nutrient that the human body needs but cannot be synthesized on its own. Fortified foods and plant food sources such as green leafy vegetables, beans, fruits, and juices are good sources of FA to meet the daily requirements of the body. The aim was to evaluate the effect of dietary FA levels on the longevity of well-known experimental aging model Caenorhabditis elegans.
